RE: [Alopecia Areata Support Group] Wig Help - QUESTION......

HI ladies!

I have yet another question about this wig delima!!!!

I want to get one sooo desperately, however, I still have a a head full of hair, however, my patches are growing like spring weeds, and it is getting more difficult to cover them.... sooo my delima, is... to I shave my head so I can wear a wig, or do I bother with tucking up all my own hair and then put the wig on.  I want a monofilament so you can see my scalp etc... but that wont really help if I have my hair all on my head still.  Plus it wont fit right i wouldnt imagine.  What have been your experiences?  Have you all just shaved your head in order to wear the wigs.. (speaking of those that are not AU or AT).

Another note, My patches are getting bigger and bigger, that it has convinced my poor children their mommy has cancer.  That is all they keep saying to me.  I feel soo bad for them.  I keep promising them that I dont, that I just am losing my hair.  They cant see them, unless I am sitting down and they are looking down on my head.  (when I tie their shoes, buckle their pants, or whatever.  I guess I am in that position alot these days! HA)

I have regrowth in all of my spots,(small, but very visible and getting longer) but new ones keep popping up, and the others keep getting bigger.  SOOO bizarre.  you would think if there was regrowth, that the spots wouldnt get bigger.... so as new hair comes in.. the outter part falls out.  Makes for a pretty picture eh?!!!

Anyway, my fiance doenst care one way or the other, however, if I shave it, its gone.... and I have no other choice but to wear a wig all the time, to where now, I can still cover my spots if I wear it in a ponytail (for the most part anyway).

I wish I had somebody to go with to take me to help me get a wig that has already gone thru this, for some reason I think it would be much more "relaxing".   All of this wig stuff is sooo intimidating!!!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Greer
