My daughter's temple preschool is also nut-free. I send her lunch each
day. We send a carbohydrate like GF noodles, white rice, or a piece of
GF bread. We send a fruit like an apple, and sometimes a vegetable
like carrot sticks or delicious, sliced Organic Persian cucumbers from
Trader Joe's. That school is Reform and allows us to send meat like a
piece of turkey or hot dog (which is cold, of course, by lunch time).
If I switch her to, say Chabad, then sending meat is out of the
question, and she wouldn't have any protein. She's 3 years old and I
pick her up at 1:00 every day. So, fortunately, I can feed her a more
nutritious lunch at home. I am not sure what I'll do as she gets
older, especially for protein, since she's allergic to soy.
