At our school (Solomon Schechter) kids must bring only kosher dairy
lunches. They made an exception recently for a child with similar
allergies such as yours, and she was allowed to bring meat. She ate
her lunch outside of the lunchroom (which is another issue to
consider). There is also another child this year with severe allergies
who must eat separately from the other kids.
For next year, my daughter's last year of preschool I am going to sign
her up for lunch bunch but accompany her each time, so we
can "rehearse" safe eating among the masses. She is severely allergic
to egg and nuts, less so to dairy but dairy is also a contact allergy.
Very scary stuff, but I think it will be the same in any school.
I think the most important is how accomodating the school is to your
childs' needs. good luck!
