Michele,
Where do you live? I am Natalie and I teach Labor of Love's Infant and
Pediatric CPR
course, BUT... I am also a hygienist and I fill in at many good pediatric
dental offices.
If I know where you live, I maybe can give you a name close to your home. Also,
although I am not a dentist, I can tell you that nitrous oxide is a safe and
common
way to relax a child for dental treatment. You always want your child to have a
good
experience at the dentist to set the stage for his (her) whole life. Ideally,
nitrous is
used to simply relax the child, not to actually put them to sleep. As soon as
you start
to breathe room air or pure oxygen, the effects of nitrous wear off rather
quickly (less
than 5 minutes.) And if the child is very anxious or fights treatment, more
nitrous
can be administered to relax the child so treatment can be performed quickly
(important for patient comfort). Feel free to email me at
thegeorgiacolemans@... if you want to discuss anything you don't want on
the board. (names, etc.)
Natalie
