Supporting Women through Perinatal Death
A Workshop for Childbirth Professionals
Lead by Miriam Maslin
The entire birthing process can be seen as a paradigm. Painful
contractions represent the challenges in our lives; and each challenge
presents an opportunity for growth and healing. The greater the
challenge – the greater the potential for transformation. Only from
the deepest, darkest places can we reach the loftiest heights.
Stillbirths and neonatal deaths are "contractions" that no one ever
wishes to encounter. Yet, working in this field, each of us will
ultimately be called upon to support a couple through such an
experience. How can we, as childbirth professionals, learn to be
truly present with our clients? Do we know that while pain and loss
are inevitable, trauma is not? What can we do to support this birthing
process in a way that will promote healing and growth?
Finally, how can we "support and transform" ourselves throughout
this difficult process?
We will explore this challenge through stories, meditations, writing,
counseling exercises, and teachings.

Escorting Women on their Inner Journey
A Workshop for Childbirth Professionals
Lead by Miriam Maslin
A second day has been added to take advantage of having Miriam with us!
While each labor contraction brings a woman closer to her baby,
every challenge in her life is a doorway to her own rebirth. We, as
professionals, can assist each client in this journey towards
transformation, healing and growth. To discover our hidden strengths -
to perhaps come to this place of knowing that our souls are one with
the Master of the Universe - this is our work, this is our labor. Once
we own this information, we have the power to do all that we need to
do in order to mother our children, to be helpmates for our husbands,
to complete our own personal journeys.
Only we have the ability to look at history and learn from our
past. Only we have free will, the ability to choose what we want to do
with our lives. Only we have the ability to better ourselves. Only we
can struggle with the question "Why am I here?" Only we have the
ability to look at each challenge in life and understand that within
that challenge is opportunity for growth. Only we ask ourselves the
question, "How can I connect with my Creator and carry out His will
for me?" When these questions are not the guiding forces in our
lives, we feel a tremendous void and emptiness. This, Dr Twerski calls
"Spiritual Deficiency Disorder".
This is not about religion. It is about being truly human. This is
what the inner journey is all about and until we, as childbirth
professionals, are consciously traveling on our own journeys, it is
very difficult for us to help our clients understand the potential
that the birthing experience holds for each of them.
We will explore this concept through stories, guided imagery,
mini-counseling sessions, and teachings.

Maslin has been a source of inspiration to many: young and old,
secular and religious, long-time searchers and those who are just
beginning their own "Interior Design". Her inner journey has taken her
across the spectrum from the beginning to the end of the life cycle --
she is a doula and has served as both hospice volunteer and member of
the Jewish Burial Society. She incorporates both Polarity Therapy (a
system of energy/holistic healing) and spiritual teachings into her
work. Miriam leads workshops for women's groups, childbirth
professionals, and all those women interested in spiritual care. You
