RE: [airsnetworker] Request for information/technology for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing

National 211 may also want to form a relationship with CapTel in Milwaukee WI.  They provide a low-cost to no cost service for the hearing impaired.

Subject: [airsnetworker] Request for information/technology for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing

2-1-1 Colleagues,

We are currently investigating how we can better serve the deaf and/or hard of hearing at our call center.  We are considering utilizing a video relay service.  However, our knowledge of this service and how it works is limited.

Is anyone currently using a video relay service?  If so, how are you currently utilizing it in your center?  What are the positives/negatives?  How did you decide which provider to go with?

Any information would be greatly appreciated, on video relay service or any other methods that 2-1-1s have effectively found to service the deaf and/or hard of hearing.   Thanks for your help.

Jill

Video Relay is great because the Deaf Community can sign to an interpreter, instead of typing. But it really only works if you know how to use ASL. Now please...
