RE: [airsnetworker] TTY-How to do it?

Bill,

I don't know the details of the technology, but we have one stand alone unit that rings in the call center which is connected to our TTY phone number, and someone has to jump up and answer it.  Usually some one is available.  Also, we often get phone calls to I&R workers from a third party interpreter, which is an agency available in Minnesota.  It's my feeling that people would more likely use the later, since hearing impaired people know about and use this service.

That's about all I know about it, hope that helps!
Nathan

Subject: [airsnetworker] TTY-How to do it?

How are others handling TTY/TTD calls?

Can people using TTY machines call 211 in your county and receive service? If so, how do you handle those calls? If thru a computer, which program/software are you using?

I’ve been doing some research and discovered CCS from NXi Communications. They have a new program, CCS, that the calls can go to any available agent, thru your network, but they quoted me $5,000 for the program. They also have a standalone version that works on one computer only for $250. With that, you have to have a way for all (or one) 211 staff member to know that call in coming in.

Someone mentioned “My TTY  Is anyone using this? Is this a current program?

Any advice you can give on how you are handling TTY calls would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Bill Ferguson
