Hi everyone! We need some help dealing with Ashlynn's preschool!!!
Ashlynn, 3 years old, has not been to school since the first week of
October. We had a few paperwork issues that resulted in Ashlynn not
being able to attend. In the middle of October we moved to another
part of the county and Ashlynn was to start school at a new one on
October 24. That has come and went and we still do not have her in
school.
The public nurse in this area does not like our Health Care Plan and
has been trying to get us to change it. The Health Care Plan states
that if Ashlynn becomes paralyized, I am to be called immediately and
they are to wait 30 minutes before giving Clonazepam. During this
time they are to hold her and watch her for breathing problems. We
also have that they are to call 911 in the event she goes into full
body paralysis, because she always needs oxygen at that time. The
nurse wants to give Ashlynn the medicine right away and call 911
immediately for any episodes. We do not think that would be the right
to do and have refused to change our Health Care Plan. She has
paralysis almost every day so 911 would be constantly at the school
and due to other experiences will treat her as having a seizure. The
Health Care Plan is now being reviewed by the Health Department's
Public Nurse. We have been told that they may not accept our Health
Care Plan and it will have to be changed accordingly to her
recomendations. I did not think that they can make us change her
medication regime and deny her services if we did not change it. Are
we wrong?
The school is also not going to provide Ashlynn an aide. There are 7
other children with varying degrees of disablity and only 2 teachers.
I am concerned that there is going to be a safety issue for Ashlynn
and the other children due to Ashlynn may need the attention of one
teacher and then the other teacher will have the other 7 children to
herself. Or that they will miss all the signs of paralysis and
Ashlynn starts to have problems breathing. There are so many things
that could go wrong that I am terrified to send her to school once
they accept her. I just don't know what to do now. If anyone can
help, I would really appreciate it!!!
Thanks,
