Hi everyone,
Does anyone's child vomit when they are stressed or trying to get out of doing
something? Our daughter, Jocelyn, has on and off fallen asleep by herself over
the years. We have for the past 2 weeks been working on her going to sleep by
herself in her bed. She has usually stopped wanting to fall asleep be self
during a total body week) We have worked up to it with the usual stuff and have
always had a bedtime routine. This time she has started vomiting when we
either start prayers or when she is starting to protest the new routine. She
also sends herself into an immediate attack and shakes from (I think) anxiety.
We had her finally falling asleep 7 nights (not consecutive) of no vomiting or
getting out of bed (including nights with attacks). She has gotten a lot of
praise and encouragement. Tonight she started the whole behavior all over and
vomited twice. She does not vomit at any other time of day.
It's extremely hard to stick with your plan when your child is uncomfortable.
I even worked with her on deep breathing to calm herself. This will actually
stop her shaking and hemi attack. Any ideas or suggestions?
Oh, the other issue is when she vomits she loses formula and calories for the
day (she's tube-fed).
We have tried positive encouragement and used natural consequences for other
issues but this is not working or possible.
Thanks,
Heather mom to Jocelyn, 6 yrs in August
