RE: [ahc] DisneyWorld

Hi Jennifer
This is really the first year we have taken a plane with Em since she was
two years old, (12now) We took Jet blue and loved it. it is much easier to
take planes now that the no smoking on board is a rule. That was the
biggest obstacle we had, she is really sensitive to smoke. puts her out in
minutes. She had not trouble, even liked the headphones.

We have had Emily there almost every year since she was two. We have stayed
in the Polynesian hotel, the Wilderness Lodge, the Wilderness Campgrounds,
and off site a few times. What we found the most convenient is to take the
water launch from the Wilderness right over to the Magic Kingdom, That is
Emily's favorite park, MGM is big the past year because of the mermaid show
and beauty and the beast shows. The launch is usually not as crowded as the
bus stops, or the tram. and it is easily accessible with her wheelchair or
stroller. They are extremely caring about kids in wheelchairs, especially
if they see it isn't a rented one. they usually have a handicap access to
most of the appropriate rides through the exit ramp, or just ask at the
front of each ride where you can go for access. Staying on the park is by
far the best experience I as a parent have ever had, coming in from outside
and finding parking and getting back and forth to the car if need be, is a
trip, If you don't have a handicap parking permit get one, it really makes
parking much easier, they let you park very close to the main area. When we
were there and got to tired during the middle of the day at the heat of it
all we would take the launch back to the wilderness camp ground and there is
a great restaurant very rustic fare, and all you can eat menu, and the kids
would relax and draw a picture on the place mat, and get out of the middle
of the park for awhile. Then we would relax at the site and go back in a
little later when we were fresh again, to make the later shows, and
fireworks, or what else we planned to see.

When you first go into the main entrance of any of the parks, there is
usually a map and schedule board, tells you the times of the character
sightings, and parades, and events around the park for the day. the map
usually has the shows and the times scheduled for them. it is good to get
an idea of when some of the shows end, so you can have a plan which ones you
what to see first, then next...go to the website, get trip planning tapes,
if nothing else the kids can watch them over and over until they go
there...and have a great time, it is the best place in the world to be a
kid, even if it is your second childhood...

Clear DayHi,
Hope everyone here in the States enjoyed their holiday weekend!

I'm hoping some of you can help here....

We are thinking of going to DisneyWorld next year. I'm a little
apprehensive. I am sure the excitement will trigger some of Alaina's
episodes - which is fine - but, don't know of the best way to handle these.
The only vacations we have taken since Alaina has been born has been via
car. This will be our first airplane trip.
We will most likely be staying on the park. Probably at one of the
villas.
Any suggestions on how to navigate the park? Any of you been there
before?

I would love to hear your experiences/stories/recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Take care,
Jennifer (mom to Alaina, 4/7/00)

Jennifer, WE just went to the park in April with Alex (6). The access passes are a little different now so make sure you bring some proof of a disability. ...
