Re: [Adults with Epilepsy] Absences

Hi everyone, do any members have absences they aren't
aware of
having? I've been told that I have them at work and
consequently,
I'm having an ambulatory EEG at the moment - it's due
to be removed
tomorrow. A short while ago, I'd just done a bit of
food shopping
but there's one item I can't find anywhere. I've
found the carrier
bag in the larder (where it shouldn't be) and this is
leading me to
believe I may have had an absence then. Can anyone
identify with
this? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Absence seizures last approximately 10-15 seconds.
During an absence seizure there is a brief interuption
of consciousness. A person having an absence seizure
will look like they're day dreaming. When a person
comes out of an absence seizure they will be
temporarily dazed & confused. They may not remember
where they are or what they were doing immiediately
before the seizure occured. And they will not have
any memory of anything that happened while they were
having the seizure. The difference between Absence
seizures & day dreaming is that when a person is day
dreaming you can get their attention easily by calling
their name or tapping them on the shoulder; But if a
person is having an absence seizure you will not be
able to get their attention till the seizure is over.
Absence seizures are the mildest form of seizures. If
you have any other questions about epilepsy I would be
happy to try and answer them for you.

Sincerely yours,
Ann Martindale
