Dear Friends,
I have been on Carbatrol for 10 years and Keppra for 2
years. Last
October I suddenly developed dryness in my skin, eyes,
mouth and
privates. Also, my sex drive dropped out.
I am on HRT due to a radical hysterectomy 4 years ago.
I would be grateful for any comments.
Thank you very much.
Yours truly,
Monica

Hi:
The symptoms you described are not listed among the
side effects for either Carbatrol (a.k.a.
Carbamazepine) or Keppra (a.k.a. Levetiracetam) on
either the Epilepsy Ontario web site or The Epilepsy
Foundation of America web site. Therefore; I suggest
that you consult your doctor if the dryness & lack of
libido persists. I suspect that the lack of libido may
be a result of the hysterectomy you had. Also; a lack
of vaginal lubrication (dryness in the privates) is
common in women who have undergone a hysterectomy.
You may wish to use a vaginal lubricant to correct
that problem. Your Gynecologist can reccomend one
that is suitable for your needs. The general dryness
of your skin & mouth however, may be the result of
something else. (Diabetes is one possibility.) I'm
sure that your doctor will be able to get to the root
of the problem by performing a few tests.
=====
Sincerely yours,
Ann Martindale
