Re: [adultswithbraces] Braces with extender or Invisligns

Hi:
Well, I got my teeth straightened in the 70s but the guy did not get my bite corrected (either did not know how or did not know about technology to do it), so that's why I am back in braces (metal) at 51.  If the bite is not correct, I was told by several and read...much...that the teeth will shift as it is the correct bite that helps to keep them in line.  Plus, overtime, the teeth will not wear evenly...I ended with the 11 root canals before the second round of braces from breaking teeth on the sides top and bottom (molars and bicuspids).  I have an open bite, so the pressure was all on the back.
I would vote for comfort, both physical and psychological, but I would try to get it done completely if possible so this will not have to be re-visited again...
Take care- Steph

Subject: [adultswithbraces] Braces with extender or Invisligns

Hello, I am 59 yrs old and my dentist recommened I look into getting braces as I have overcrowding of teeth. I had metal braces as a child(in the 60's)  then  the teeth shifted, didn't continue wearing retainers.

I have gone for consultations with 3 different Orthodontics including a Dental University.  They all have concluded I need braces top and bottom to correct the bite and the overcrowding.   2 of them said the invisaligns would correct the "crooked" teeth in front but not the bite and that they are willing to do this. This would help with flossing and brushing.  1 ortho said he would do only braces including an extender at the roof of month.  I never heard of an extender and a picture was shown to me. Does'nt look very comfortable.  I asked a Dental Professor about extender and she advised not to do that as surgery has to be done and since I had cleft palate surgery done as a baby & there is scar tissue in roof of month already may be a problem.

I don't have TMJ or any pain in jaw, I don't grind my teeth when I sleep.  I can chew fine except for my small mouth.  But I'm used to that.
Does anyone have comments, ideas, suggestions regarding any of these procedures?   I am leaning toward Invisaligns just to straighten the teeth.
I have asked all 3 orthos if I do nothing will there be a problem later and all of them said no.

Thank you for any suggestions/information.

I say do what's comfortable for you. If you do not want the surgery and the pain of the traditional braces I would get the invisilign. I didn't have that...
