They'll talk to you for awhile, he'll exam your bite, teeth, etc. and tell you what they want to do.  They'll do measurements and stuff.  Then they'll talk to you about the price and how long they'll be on.  I got mine on three days after my 24th birthday, I'm 26 now and still have them.  Hehehe.  :-)
