others as this is still kind of new to me. I have had my braces on
since March. Two adjustments ago, my orthodontist began "dusting" or
otherwise known as "interproximal reduction." This is taking diamond
impregnated sort of sandpaper and gently grinding some of the enamel
off the teeth to creat small gaps and provide more room to pull back
the protrusion of the front teeth. I had the choice of doing this or
extraction of 4 teeth (premolars). I decided to go with the
conservative option. Extractions would have produced a bit too much
space and the "dusting" will provide a bit too little space. I have
chains on my teeth now and between the dusting and the chains, I have
more discomfort now than I did when I first started this. But the
teeth are lining up well! Supposedly, I have about 6-8 months to go.
I can't wait!!
