It sounds like you are miserable.  I have the same problem with my brackets on my back molars because there is no wire through them.  They didn't touch my gums, but cut up my cheeks.  It is such a tight fit because the brackets are on my wisdom teeth.  I used a lot of wax, but my mouth eventually got used to it.

 

I can identify with you on the no sleeping thing too.  I had sores all through my mouth and found out I was allergic to my latex elastics.  It took about two months of misery before I figured out the problem.  It was so bad that I was hardly sleeping.  I hope that you are able to get some sleep soon.
