Most dental insurance companies have plans or "riders" that cover
orthodontics to varying levels. If you are buying your own, personal
plan you can add them - for an additional fee, of course. If you are
going through your employer's dental plan it is determined by the
negotiations between your employer and the insurance company.
For instance, my employer's plan cover's all ages up to $1500 and has
a fee schedule that participating orthodontists must adhere to.
Some plans only cover up to age 18. Others have no coverage for
ortho at all.
