Hi there :)
Thank you for your comment! even if I don't quite agree with you. I do agree
that a petition alone is not likely to change a bad situation. But if it is
supported by other actions like letters, emails, articles, demonstrations etc,
and backed up by serious organisations and good lawyers, petitions may make a
difference. It has happened more than once, whether it was about Starbucks,
political prisoners, children's issues etc. So my humble opinion is "never say
never"...
If nothing else, it can raise awareness about issues, and could help building a
stronger network. It can make someone stop and think about an issue, or give new
information about it, or be an update or a follow up on a situation. Provided
that it is a serious, well-informed petition.
Unlike email petitions (not hosted by websites) that people just forward
endlessly adding countless names, these serve no purpose, only clog your inbox
and send your email address around the internet, like chain letters, endlessly
and without any action taken or results.
I often use the snopes website to identify scam and hoaxes but my experience is
it's not always right, in spite of being very informative on most topics.
with best wishes,
Brigitte

Subject: [AdultChildrenOfChildAbuse] Ask the United Nations to End Violence in
Schools
Sorry, but signing online petitions doesn't remedy anything. I get a
lot of these petitions, and every time I get one, I send this URL.
Please read it so you won't waste your time with online petitions.
