Hi everyone,
First of all, thanks Brigitte for the links on TN.
Well, here I am. I live in India (and I'm Indian too) and I run a free
program providing resources for adult survivors of child abuse, and
people who work with them (e.g. social workers, activists, counselors,
etc.) There's some awareness about child abuse in general, but very
little focus on the adult survivors' issue. In fact, the reason I
started working on this was when I returned to India (I was living in
the Middle East) and found that there were no support groups here.
Anyway .. that's my work. And needless to say, I work on this issue
because I too am a survivor. I'm 41 now (but turn 42 in just two
weeks!) I was abused from infancy up to the age of 13 or so, by male
relatives. I only started connecting my abuse to the mess that was my
life, in my mid 30s, when I was fortunate enough to find Mrs. Harper,
my first therapist, who helped me work through a lot of stuff.
After that, my life went through such a change and I lead a much
happier and peaceful life now. I still have issues to work on,
"disorders" to deal with .. at times I still get overwhelmed or
depressed or at times just stunned with life's unfairness .. but
that's the way it is. Life is a process, and I'm going through it.
I guess that's enough of an introduction? I will write again, and hope
to join in with my feedback to other's posts.
Take care all, nice to be here ..
Nazu.
