I think that it needs to be kept in perspective that it is the highest REPORTED
rapes. So at the risk of sounding twisted .. this is actually a good thing,
because it means that women feel safe enough or sure enough of the criminal
justice and social services systems etc, to come forward and report these
crimes.

Here in India, most cases of rape or child abuse will go unreported. Very few
will ever go to the cops, let alone to court. Families will hush up the matter
because of "family honour", "no one will marry you" .. attitudes are slowly
changing. But Very Slowly.

Just yesterday, two 12 year old girls one of whom I know personally, got
molested. Today their parents are saying that "nothing happened." And that's
it. Nothing more will be done or said on the matter. It's very frustrating.
Infuriating. Heart-breaking. But there's very little I can do. Except keep on
with my work and hope that it makes a difference somewhere somehow someday.
