A 13-year-old girl was placed in temporary state custody Friday after the girl
told police her father sexually assaulted her and witnesses said the man agreed
to sell her for $100.
Associate Judge Charles Montemayor of the Bexar County Children's Court also
ordered the girl's 35-year-old father to pay child support while keeping his
distance from his daughter.
"There'll be no visits for the father," Montemayor said.
The father, who is jailed on an aggravated sexual assault charge, opted not to
appear in court via a closed-circuit television monitor, but his lawyer said he
denied the state's allegations.
It is the general policy of the San Antonio Express-News not to identify victims
of sexual assault or minors who might have been abused. The Express-News also is
not identifying the father to protect the girl's identity.
A South Side family grew uneasy after seeing the man and his daughter walking
down the street after midnight Sunday. The family eventually offered the man
$100 for the girl, to get her away from him, according to a police affidavit.
The man accepted and left the girl, saying, "do whatever" you want to her and
that he'd pick her up later, the affidavit said. No money was ever exchanged.
The family called police, and the girl later told officers her father had
sexually abused her.
