Re: [adrenal_hyperplasia] Digest Number 14

When to give the injection of solu-cortef or triple the cortef ? My ped
endo said 101 fever but 100 fever is and can be just as bad. For one thing
the therometers are not accurate - so 100 fever - triple the oral dose. And
the NIH pamplet says to give the stress does at 100 degrees.
Also I read for vomiting the cortef can not be absorbed - so inject.
Especially an infant or small child under 5 years old - can not handle the
physcial stress of illness like an adult especially with CAH - so please be
careful. You can not over dose from cortef but if you do not give - she will
die!!! Do not wait for the next cortef doseage if she has a fever or
vomits - 100 fever - triple the amount; give mortrin or tylenol and give the
mortrin every four hours - even if she is asleep - especially if she is
alseep.!!! Sleeping or legary is a sign of adrenal crisis. Do not think that
sleep is good !! She can be in a coma!!

Roberta
