Jenny,
I also have a little girl born with CAH, however, she was diagnosed
at birth and started her meds at day 4 of her precious life. I have never
experienced at vomiting with any of the meds my daughter has taken. My
daughter, who is now 6 yrs. old, is takes a total 3-1/2 tablets a day of
cortef. She is also a salt-waster and takes one florinef tablet every day.
Is your daughter a salt-waster? If you don't know, definitely talk to your
doctor about it as CAH and salt-wasting, most times, go hand in hand. My
daughter was also born with enlarged genitilia. She had 2 surgeries. The
first one at around 3 mos. and another surgery at 18 mos. You need to speak
to a urologist immediately. It is so much better to have these common
operations done on your child when they are at a young age, as they do not
remember them nor do they experience the anxiety that we go through as
parents of CAH. Believe me, it is much harder on the parents than it is on
the child. My daughter was bouncing around like nothing ever happened a
day after her sugary. And if your wondering, she looks just like any other
girl now. We have been blessed with wonderful doctors here in Pittsburgh,
PA. They are experienced and well educated in CAH. My daughter has been
doing wonderfully since birth. She has had only one adrenal crises at age
3. She had the rota-virus, which basically is vomiting and diarrhea.
You are very lucky that your little girl has survived all of this. I have
been told that children with CAH who do not get their meds shortly after
birth that their life would be in jeopardy. I don't know where you live or
what sort of doctors you are dealing with, but you need to make sure you are
dealing with an experienced endocrinologist, and for the surgery, a
urologist who has done that sort of surgery.
There is a great web-site. It is a handbook on CAH. It explains CAH is
term we can understand. I highly recommend it. It is under
www.tdh.state.tx.us/newborn/hand_cah.htm.
I'd be happy to help you in any way possible, so please feel free to contact
me any time.
