As far as
I'm concerned, on the List of Bad Things, this one is waaaaaaay down near
the bottom. For example, I'd much rather have CAH than diabetes. Would I
rather have no medical condition at all? Yeah, sure.

I have to say I agree whole-heartedly with you Kathy!  It is good to hear
that someone who has CAH feels this way as well.  When my daughter was
diagnosed and we told family, they all freaked out and all they keep telling
me is how amazed they are with how strong I am and dealing with this so well.
I keep telling them--what's to deal with?  I am SO happy that I at least
know what is wrong and that the problem can be so "easily" fixed.  I would
rather have a baby with CAH anyday over cancer or some of those rare disease
where the child actually dies in a few years.  At least my child has the
ability to lead a normal life and she acts just like any other child.  She is
absolutely beautiful ad there is nothing I would want to change about her.
At the age of 1 the idea of taking pills doesn't bother her one bit--she
actually likes them--so why should it bother me?

Certainly, not everyone's story is going to be the same and I know that
those with the more severe salt-wasting form will have more on their plates.
It's not my intent to minimize anyone's condition. But consider the flip
side of the coin: the doctor told my parents that kids with CAH always are
very bright, and do very well in school. The majority of them also have some
sort of outstanding talent - music, art, etc.

I found this statement REALLY interesting.  My daughter has always seemed
extremely intelligent for her age, but I figured that is just because she is
my kid, and doesn't every parent believe their child is the best?  LOL  She
is also very musical, and has better pitch and understanding of music at the
age of 1 than my 3 yr. old son does.  I was hoping she just got that from me
(LOL) since I am a singer and pianist.  Is there any research on this, or
just one doctor's opinion?  I have heard of CAH kids being better with
spatial abilities, and that is definately true with my daughter, and I know
research has been done on that.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Kathy--I enjoyed reading your opinion.  It
is good to hear from someone who is happy with themselves and what life has
delt them.  :)
Jenny
