Fw: March is MHMR Awareness Month   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #161 of 193 |
I got this in my mail box that is from my uncle's in Texas town. I wish I
could have gone, if I had an airline ticket and time to go. I am only
sharing it to share that this is our month, if it is for us. I am sorry if
I did offend anyone though.

March is MHMR Awareness Month
Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen and Fort Bend County Clerk Diane Wilson
Present Proclamations
The stage was set at Community Park in Missouri City at a festive setting,
picnic-style under the pavilion, calling attention at helping promote
understanding of mental retardation with a gathering in celebration of
Mental Health Mental Retardation Awareness Month.
Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen and Fort Bend County Clerk, Diane Wilson, who
represented both Fort Bend County and the Fort Bend County Texana MHMR Board
as Chairman, were among the participants of the recent celebration on
Saturday, March 18, 2006. Mayor Owen and Wilson presented proclamations
calling attention to the number of Texans, approximately 536,000, with
mental retardation. "Most persons having mental retardation, with support,
can live productive and fulfilling lives," stated Mayor Owen further noting
that organizations such as "the Texana MHMR Center is committed to providing
quality developmental disability services for persons with mental
retardation."
The festive gathering featured balloon artists, live entertainment, and
great picnic food among other activities in celebration of the awareness
commemoration. The festivities, complete with live music, celebrate the
awareness month by promoting a better understanding to help lessen the
stigma, reduce fear, and result in the opportunity to have persons with MHMR
live in the most appropriate setting possible and function to their fullest
possible capacity.

(l-r) Kevin Barker, Regional Manager of the Fort Bend County Texana MHMR, is
joined by Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen, Fort Bend County Clerk, Diane
Wilson, and Charlie Huber, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fort
Bend ARC, in commemoration of Mental Health Mental Retardation Awareness
Month.
