Re: [adie_syndrome] new to group

Diane maybe you should try amber lenses ...I've been told they are great day or night and there is no need for sunglass's and I might try them as soon as my budget will allow me to. Also try to wear a cap. Switch to fluorescent lighting or dimmer switches. Most of all never be embarrassed. Our lives are to short to worry about what others think about us. You will learn to adjust and live with this eye condition and thank our lucky stars that it's not blinding.

Hi everybody,

I have been suffering from Adies for a little over a year and I have
only just discovered this group.

I am a 32 year old mother and have adies in my left eye.  My right
eye is fine and I have no problems with my vision in that eye.

As for my left eye, well that is really giving me severe problems in
that my pupil is always dilated to almost the size of my iris.
Despite several consultant appointments, they are unable to tell me
what causes this. Nor can any of them offer any treatment.

For the first few months, I was unable to open my eye in any form of
light, even at night with low lights. I also have problems focusing
with that eye and cannot even watch the TV or read.
I tried wearing very dark glasses, but they didn't help except in the
evening when it was dark.
It goes without saying that wearing very dark glasses at night is
very embarrassing as it looks stupid. Unfortunately, people do not
understand why I wear them at night.

For the last 6 months I have been wearing a patch over my adies eye
and I have found that this really helps. I am able to watch TV and
even read with one eye. Unfortunately, I am very embarrassed wearing
a patch in other peoples company. My friends know about my problem
and are very sympathetic.

I am very depressed because I do not know if my eye condition is
going to be with me for the rest of my life, or if it will eventually
clear up. I have heard differnt stories about the condition, but as I
say, they are only stories.

Does anyone else have the same problems and how do you deal with it.
I don't want to have to wear a patch all my life and look like a
cyclopse.

I would be grateful for any information from other sufferers.

warm regards
Diane
