Re: [adie_syndrome] I'm new to this group

Hello Kathy , Well it seems like everyone suffers differently. I too have it in my left eye and it came about after the sudden death of my Mother 5 years ago. I believe stress was the factor in my case. I'm one of the lucky ones because I do not suffer much. Sometimes I feel like I have a bad case of dry eye. I used to wear and eye patch but not anymore. I wear my shades and my bucket hat and those seem to work for me and I try to avoid over head lighting and keep all my lights on dim.

Good Luck ..Trish

Hello, I was doing a little research today and found this group. I
woke up on April 1 1996 with what I thought was a 'blown' pupil. At
first I thought 'What kind of April Fools joke is this?' I had
suffered headaches and severe migraines before the episode and the
day that I went to see a neurologist I was experiencing a terrible
one as well. They performed an MRI to rule out a stroke, but they
weren't able to find anything..therefore they diagnosed me with Adie
tonic eye syndrome. It is only in my left eye, and ironically
enough, my oldest sister has the same condition in her left eye. We
both had recently turned 30 when this happened but I was told that
it is not hereditery. I am amazed by what I have read briefly. I
did not know there was any type of treatment for anything. I have
asked about what I could do to protect my eye.. so far the only
answer for me is sunglasses. My left eye is also my dominate eye..
so I know that it effects my vision. If it's too dark I can't
see..and if it's too bright I cannot see. My pupil has not changed
in 10 yrs. But my last prescription for glasses made me so sick
that I threw them away and picked up a pair of reading glasses
instead. I still have the headaches daily, so I am constantly on
Aleve all of the time. I noticed that some of you had mentioned
other possible side effects. What are these? I do suffer from
spinal arthritis and just this month my large toe has lost feeling.
Can someone enlighten me some? Thanks.
