Hi all,
I am Serra Nicole, I live in West Virginia, USA. I have Adie's
Pupil in both eyes. My meds I take are Pilocarpine 1%, one drop per
eye every morning. I actually read the insert that came with the meds
and it mentioned the possibility of Retinal Detachment with prolonged
use, so I only use my eye drops when I will be in the sunlight for
extended periods through out the day. My 1% seems to work fine for
me, lasts all day. I also obtained a note from my doctor(which I keep
in my car's glovebox to avoid a ticket) so I could have illegally
dark tint put on my car (15% light transmission as opposed to the WV
legal 35%) so that helps a lot, not to mention my car looks sportier!
hehe
My doctor is located at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland (and
Walter Reed Army Medical Center in washington, DC), since my husband
is retired Army, I can utlize the military hospitals free. My Adies
started in 1999 when I obtained a particularly nasty virus while
working at the local Casino. I was sick off and on for nearly a year
when my vision changed. The Opthamologist told me I have Adies in
both eyes, he also said it is a rare disorder caused either by trauma
or a Super Bug ( i.e., a strong virus). I too have Migraine
headaches, but never in the winter, only in the heat or basically
above 70º F. I have 15 watt lighting through out the house, which
also helps.
I have loss of reflex in my left leg and ankle. I don't have the
sweating problems some of you have mentioned, I actually have dried
out since my sickness, sweat less than I used to. I do have a weird
swelling/numbness that comes and goes, under my left knee,(closer to
the inner calve) that has occurred since the sickness, but by the
time my doctors appointment rolls around it has dissappeared again.
I guess that is it that I can think of. I do sometimes accidentally
put more than 1 drop in one of my eyes, and get a kick outta people
mentioning that one pupil is missing. LOL!
Serra Nicole
