My 7 yr old started Vyvanse three months ago and has already lost 5 pounds due
to the loss of appatite side affect. Does anyone know of a suppliment for kids
to help or a healthy high calorie food that he might like?
There's actually lots of things, depending on what your child will eat. With
William we leave fruit out. We don't sweat the calorie counts of foods and
let him graze throughout the day if he wants to. Bedtime snacks help too. He
s never gained much weight but he grows UP! ugh... Bean pole is an apt
description!! There are drinks like Carnation Instant Breakfast, Boost,
Ensure etc that are higher calorie and have lots of nutrients. Ask your
doctor if he's allowed to have them but there are protein bars as well. Look
and taste like chocolate bars but are fairly healthy for you. Smoothies,
fruit juices (especially the ones with added veggies... they don't even know
they're there!)... If he likes spaghetti with meat sauce you can sneak extra
veggies in there. Mine love Special K cereals. lol My dd5 loves the
chocolate one... figures she's getting a treat!! You could try something
like that. Hmmmm... Find out what he likes and then leave it either in a
cupboard, drawer or in the fridge for him. William's got a shelf in a
cupboard for his peanut butter jar and, as long as he pulls out a new loaf
if he uses it all, he's allowed toast and pb (anything but white bread...)
for snacks. Hope these ideas help!!
Barb? Do we have a file or a spot in the database for this topic? Someplace
people could add their ideas?

Hugs...

My DS (16) is thin, but proportioned. His appetite is always greatest in the
morning. He has a huge breakfast. It ranges from 3 bowls of cereal with milk
and a Carnation with fruit on the side, to leftovers from the night before to
soup to oatmeal, eggs and toast, pancakes . . . whatever he'll eat.
For lunch (when his appetite is somewhat decreased) he has a sandwich and
sometimes a piece of fruit or a cheese stick. By the time he gets home, he is
very hungry. He'll have a snack (could be fruit, yogurt . . . whatever is in
the fridge).
He eats a good supper. the biggest thing I have found that helps is balancing
carbs and proteins. He needs to have some source of protein and carb @ each
meal. Now, for him on weekends, meals are more like day-long grazing fests!
That's alright.
So, that's how we handle. Oh, he is on Focalin XR. That has not interrupted
either his growth or weight gain.

Added a folder in the links section. Just hit links and you can add sites
you've found useful. Included 2 in there.
