Hi...my son Justin (7) is taking metadate CD 20 mg. It is most definitely
helping with him being hyper, he is definitely more calm now...but
sometimes it seems like he is too serious and VERY moody. He is a moody kid
but
since taking this medication, it seems like it's much worse and he is very
grumpy and angry all the time. He says he is angry because his younger
brother bothers him all the time, which he does bother him at times (he's 5) ,
and we are working on that...but sometimes he just walks in the same room
as Justin and Justin screams at him for no reason. He yells at us a lot
too. I can ask him what he wants for lunch and he can yell back at me
(especially if he's in the middle of doing something like drawing/coloring or
playing a video game). It just seems like he's so angry a lot of the time or
grumpy. When you ask him what's wrong, he'll say nothing or blame his
brother. I just hate to see him like this. He was so excited about the summer
and that he gets to stay home and "play all day". But now that he is home,
he's so grumpy. He started the medication about 2 weeks ago and at that
time at school, the teacher said that it was working and he was behaving
better but it wasn't perfect, he was still fidgety and making noise, but just
not as much as before or as loud. So now I don't know if I should change
medications, or if the dose isn't right. I just seem so confused on what
medication is right for him and how much. He was on a short acting generic
for ritalin before and the dr switched it to the 8 hour so that it would
have less of a rebound effect (because i told her then that he seemed to get
moody), but it seems like this isn't just a rebound but a good part of the
day he's moody.
Sorry for rambling...i'm just so confused...
Natalie
