Re: [ADHD Parents Support Group] Introduction

Wow! And I would say for me, there wouldn't be a "yes" coming for her anytime
soon! OMG!

Feel free to make it your own - your living with the personification.
A week ago we lent my DD $60, took her car in for an oil change and paid for
it, and let her use our car while doing so. When we told her to bring our car
back and use her own to go out with friends, she was furious. No thought or
mention of all the stuff we had done. We're only as good as our last "yes".

Woops...that should have said, "Love YOUR name for our DD's afflictions. "

Both psychologist and psychiatrist say it's not depression. The psych doesn't
do therapy, just medication. Psychologist said he won't see Alex because Alex
won't participate - won't talk, etc. I am getting help through my therpist who
is an MFT. Would it be better if I worked with the psychologist regarding
parenting Alex do you think?
I like to say my daughter, now 19, has a royalty complex. That attitude thing
can be awful. She's gotten a lot better, but still puts on her crown and scepter
when it suits her. :) Son was diagnosed at 7.

Welcome to you (and all the other new members!) One thing for sure that is my
own mantra is take a day at a time. We can worry about our kids' futures all we
want (and let's face it . . . we all do that . . . including me!) But just deal
with the things that are important TODAY to make sure the road is paved for them
to be successful in the future.

Have you discussed your 16 yr. olds situation with this therapist? I would. It
could be depression. It could be any # of things. So, again I would consult the
therapist to see what's going on.

I am Barb, SAHM to 2 kids. DS is 16 (diagnosed with ADHD when he was almost
13) along with depression and now ??mood disorder. DD is 13 and is a teenage
princess primadonna drama queen. The attitude thing is rampant in this house and
trying to tame it!

I am new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. We have 3 children. DD
is 19 and ADD, but manages it and her life pretty well, DS is almost 16, ADHD,
and I think ODD. He's the reason I joined. Youngest DS is 11, no AD/HD, thank
goodness.
Our 16 year old, Alex, has gotten much worse over the past several months.
Doesn't care about school, is failing most classes, very angry, rebellious. We
are trying some new discipline with him which for now is making him worse. I am
pretty exhausted and sick of dealing with him. Very worried about his future.
BTW - my husband is ADD too.
I'm loving the posts so far. So helpful to know I am not alone.
