Hello, Go to a pychiatrist first, they know more about the condition and will
have more tests to reveale exactly what it is . They will also be more
provable, if you ever need proof of the condition, as many people will not
belive it. I consider it a disability and my son is about to get SSI, so wee
needed extensive testing to prove it. Children who acually have ADHD do not
grow out of it, as it is a condition with which the frontal lobe is not working
properly. The medication is designed to help the brain waves function in the
frontal lobe, and after many years of taking it regularly, the frontal lobe may
decide to function on it's own. ADHD is a condition with which the child is
born with, or comes from a brain injury.

I'm new to the group and have been reading the daily digests. My son
had probably been ADHD for several years know. I think I hoped he
would "outgrow it" or that with my help - attention it would get
better. Unfortunatly it's not - so I think he needs a prescription.
Where do I start- with a pediatrician? He just turned 11.
