Re: [Addison's Disease] Is this illness an affliction? Where are these health proffessionals?

Hi Holly,
Nice to meet you. I check her blood sugars for her because I have
low blood sugar also. Hers is borderline low. I too suffer from sever migrains
it's ironic that you mentioned that. It is good that the drs. are checking your
daughters thyroid regularly because with addisons other things start to become
wrong like the low thyroid and blood sugar and low BP etc. Good luck to her and
with an informed mom like yourself she will do just fine. Just try and be
supportive on the bad days.

hi lace. my name is holly actually. david is my husband. i meant to change that.
that is awful that the drs wont listen and check ur daughter. has she tried
monitoring her blood sugar levels? im not that familiar with hypothyroid. they
test my daughter for that reguarly but so far so good. i am 29. i have 3 girls
and another on the way. the first 2 daughters are by my ex husband who died
about 5 yrs ago. he died of a cerebral hemmorage. he had always had trouble with
low blood sugar but nooone ever cared to find out why. after our daughter was
diagnosed they came to the conclusion that he was probably in a crisis which
caused the hemmorage. he was really small and dark skinned and i remember when
we were married he had lots of headaches. when my daughter was small for her age
and her skin got really dark everyone just chalked it up to oh shes just like
her dad. turns out they were right in more ways than we knew. my other daughter
by him seems to be fine thank goodness.

I'm 37 with this disease but I've only had it for 3yrs. I have 4
children and worry about them getting also. I have 1 maybe 2 that already
experience things that go along with this desease but I'm having difficulty
getting the doctors to test them for it. I also had the hypoglycemia and
hypothyroid, with some darkness of the skin but not much. Mine came in tons of
freckles. My daughter however does have the dark skin and has had hypothyroid
for 3yrs since the age of 15. She does not have menstral periods with out
medication on her own. She suffers from depression and is thought to be lazy by
others in the family. Not by me of course because some days I just can't pull
myself out of bed. Thats when I know to increase my hydracortisone to
compensate. My endo. says some times you have to treat the symtoms regaurdless
what the test show. Any how, I'm so frustrated about my daughters doctors not
checking her levels and they know I have it. Why won't they just
listen? I don't know if any of this has helped or opened more questions but
please reply back. Good luck to you and your daughter this isn't an easy
desease to have because people who don't suffer from it just don't understand a
lot of things that go along with it. I commend you for trying to find out more
about it.

this is my first time posting here. my daughter was diagnosed with addisons
disease a year and a half ago at 9. she almost died. she was in a crisis and her
blood sugar dropped to 19. she was so dark that she looked like she was from the
middle east. all of her life she had been thin and dark but doctors said nothing
was wrong. its still all really hard to talk about. her father died at age 28 of
a cerebral hemmorage. drs now say he had addisons disease. the only reason it
was caught in my daughter was because an intern saw her and saw how dark her
gums were and said off-handedly she almost looks like someone with addisons
disease. the other doctors said no way shes to young. but after lots of testing
they found out thats what it was. since she began taking cortisol and florinef
she is like a new person. she is the same size as her peers now (before she was
much smaller) and she is about ten shades lighter. she also has the energy to
play. im ashamed to say i just thought she was
lazy before. i hope she will live a normal life with this disease but i fear she
wont. does anyone else out there know any other children with this disease?

Who uses this site? I don't think any real adisonians do, I refer
all people who have this condition to adshg (GET WISED UP!)
