Re: New Member

Hi Alan

What a sad story.

I got hypothyroidism just over 3 years ago. It took about 8 moths to
diagnose - which was my fault - I just assumed that I was under the
weather and I'd get better. I didn't and I ended up suffering from a
lot of the symptoms you describe. From diagnosis and starting on
Thyroxine it actually took about 2 years before I felt 100% - and
then I got Addisons.

It could be that not all of your symptoms are attributable to
Addisons. When I was at my lowest point with hypothyroidism I
suffered from (in no particular order):-
depression
dry skin
hair loss
loss of mental agility
extreme fatigue
indegestion
muscle cramp
carpal tunnel

I was also extremely short tempered - which is quite out of
character.

As I say, it took 9 months of trial and error (new dose followed by
a blood test after 3 months) to get the thyroxine dose right and
another 15 months before I felt normal.

I didn't have the extreme symptoms which you - and many others in
this group - have suffered from with Addisons. My doctor diagnosed
Addisons from my skin colour.

So I hope that you will get over the worst symptoms that you are
suffering from in time as I did.

One thing to consider is that you are taking your medication orally
and relying on your digestive system to absorb the medication. If
you are suffering from diarreah and vomiting this may not be
happening effectively - your body may not be receiving quite the
dose it needs. This can lead to both dehydration and confusion.

As a reference point I now take 200mg thyroxine in the morning along
with 50ug fludrocortisone and 10mg hydrocortisone. I take 5mg
hydrocortisone in the middle of the day and again in the early
evening.

I am a 44 year old married male from London, England.

Alan I hope this helps - I wish you a full and quick recovery

Marcus
