Hello All,

This is to announce that Prof. J.R. Worsley died in his sleep Monday morning
last.

With his passing we have lost one of the great men of acupuncture from our era.
Through J.R.s time on the planet he encouraged a form of acupuncture that
treated the person over the symptom, touched thousands with his treatments,
inspired many to become acupuncturists and in his own way, changed the world.

Our thoughts go out to his wife Judy and his son John and daughter Hilary

Sincerely,

Gye Bennetts

Spas make house calls
A handful of L.A. entrepreneurs will pull up, park and start pampering.

latimes.com

By Brenda Rees, Special to The Times

WITH work, freeway traffic and the tensions of everyday life, it's been a
hard day.

It's time to step into a world of pure, luxurious pampering a place
where worries can be kneaded, scrubbed and rubbed away. Here, feet
are lavishly massaged, legs are soaked, bodies are wrapped and hands
are dipped in paraffin. Gentle, soothing music plays. The scent of
ancient oils and herbs cleanses the air.

It's a place of calm and serenity. It's your living room?

Many in the Southland are discovering the true comforts of home when
they arrange to have spa services brought to their houses. A handful of
companies around Los Angeles bring professional spa services such
as massage, natural facials and body scrubs as well as reflexology and
aromatherapy treatments to those who don't wish to, or cannot,
make a pilgrimage to their neighborhood spa.

Some can also arrange private yoga sessions, acupuncture and
acupressure treatments, hot rock massage and Qi-Gong therapy, based
on tapping the body's own healing energies.

"They make you feel like you have your own personal spa," says Shelly
Mickelson of San Pedro, who gets deep-tissue massage, mini-facials
and/or reflexology in her home about once a month. "They come with
all the equipment including music and they basically transform my
living room into a spa."

While many individuals are taking advantage of the luxury of a home
spa, others Angelenos throw "spa parties," where guests can
simultaneously revel in body treatments such as salt or sugar body
scrubs or hot-oil head massages.

"Bridal showers and bachelorette parties are very popular," says Regina
Fernandez, who operates the San Pedro-based Doorstep Day Spa. "It's
nice to get friends together and do something different for
change." "For many women, having a spa party is better than spending
a night out at a bar," agrees Karen McDowell, who runs Paradiso, a spa
with Redondo and Newport Beach locations.

Many providers agree that going into a client's home gives them more
time with clients than they ever could have had in a traditional spa. In
private homes, there is less pressure to "move one client out and get
another one in" and therapists can work at a more leisurely pace.

Burbank reflexologist Irene Birmingham finds that in-home foot-
massage parties help her educate people about the ancient healing art's
ability to "help reduce pain and provide optimal health."

Usually headed up by one entrepreneurial soul, local in-home spa
services often draw upon a professional and licensed cadre of therapists
who can help fulfill clients' needs.

In-home spa services must adhere to state barbering and cosmetology
laws that forbid practitioners to offer certain "invasive" treatments
such as manicures and pedicures, in which clipping, painting and
polishing are performed outside of a licensed establishment.
Massage therapists need to be state certified.

As for cost, in-home services are comparable to those found in spas. A
60-minute in-home therapeutic massage typically ranges from $70 to
$85. Therapists often add a nominal drive-time fee to the cost.
Birmingham's foot-massage parties are $15 per person for a 15-minute
session.

In addition, a new market has emerged for service providers: senior
citizens and the handicapped.

"People with chronic injuries or who have a hard time getting out of the
house call us," says Carrie Reinagel of Whole Life Consultants Spa
Services, with offices in downtown L.A. and Hermosa Beach.

And finally, having the spa come to them may be one way for hesitant
hubbies and boyfriends to test the waters.

"It's easier for a man's first time to be in his own home," says
Fernandez. "At home, your defenses are down and you can really get all
the benefits of a massage or whatever service you want. They try it
and like it."

The reflexology theory

Apparently, your foot bone's connected to a lot more than your ankle
bone. Reflexology says that nerves in the feet (and hands) correspond
to all parts of the body and that stimulating certain reflex areas can
increase energy and blood flow to organs and glands, improving overall
health and well-being.

Pictographs in the ancient tomb of a physician in Egypt depict hands and
feet being massaged, leading some to theorize that people practiced
some form of reflexology then.

Modern-day reflexology was developed by American physiotherapist
Eunice Ingham, who created the "foot map" reflexologists still use.

The first reflexology training workshops were conducted in 1942.

Practitioners contend that reflexology facilitates the "unblocking" of
stagnant nerve impulses that can cause aches, fatigue or stress.

Reflexologists say their methods complement, rather than replace,
medical treatment.

i am a new student of Qi Gong, and what i am looking for is a listing
of foods, the meridian/s each pertains to and what it does (i.e.,
makes hot, cools, makes dry, makes moist, etc.). i am interested in
not only traditional Chinese foods, but also American foods.
Additionally, i would be interested in any system one would use to
classify a food that is not already on such a list.

i am interested in this both to further my study and to bolster my
own health which has been diagnosed as weak Kidney and Lung; strong
spleen, but with a tendency to moist and hot. First i wish to
correct my own problems so that i might eventually be able to help
others with theirs.

Lee Yuan has spent over 40 years practicing qigong and is now using
electric therapy to treat people with problems
By Lisa Chiu
CONTRIBUTING REPORTER
Sunday, Jun 08, 2003,Page 17

The room is bright with a couple of wooden tables and matching chairs.
In one corner of the room is a computer that runs a program diagnosing
the patients before they enter the room and are treated by Lee Yuan (
ԭ), the man who has spent more than 40 years practicing and teaching
qigong, and treating patients with electric qigong.

Inside the room, a sign reads, "Do stand away from the parameter if
you are not here to be treated, or your [sic] will inhale bad qi." Lee,
dressed in a gray polo shirt, with his trademark white silky hair, is about=

to treat Huang Shih-min (SԊ), a 12 year-old girl whose parents
want Lee to treat her for a nose allergy.

"She used to breathe with noises in her nose, and her nose would often
be blocked," said Mrs. Huang, as he daughter awaited treatment.

Everything is set and Lee is ready to perform his treatment. He holds
two wet towels that are folded in his hands. He begins to unwrap them,
revealing two keys wrapped in wet paper towels. The keys are
connected to a live wire, which is plugged into the socket right next to
the bed.

"See, I wrap them in wet towels because normal people cannot take the
current straight from the keys. That's why I wrap them in a towel," Lee
says.

The feeling of the electric treatment is like a massager with a spiky
surface. It is a bit like touching a refrigerator that is leaking electrici=
ty.
Lee controls the current through his hands and the qi stored in his
stomach controls the power, Lee says.

Ready to treat the girl, he takes a deep breath and looks at ther lying
flat on the bed with her two hands folded on her stomach. She seems
tense, but lies obediently. Lee uses his body as the medium to transfer
the current from the wire to his patients. He claims that he is able to
control the current depending on how sick the patients are. He says he
has never burned a patient.

Lee says that he practiced conducting electricity on himself hundreds of
times before he started treating other people. "More importantly, I have
been a vegetarian for more than 20 years. My body is clean and my
mind is pure. That's why my patients are safe with me."

Pointing to his ample belly, he says, "Feel how hard my stomach is ...

This is qi."

The wire connected to the keys releases approximately 110 volts. Lee
says wrapping them in wet paper towels increases the power 50 times.
As Lee holds the towels against the acupuncture points around Huang' s
nose, she grimaces but does not cry. When Lee continues to press the
towels on her nose for a few second more, however, tears well up in
the corner of her eyes.

"These are not tears from pain," Lee says. "Rather they are the essence
of the cause of her breathing problems, which is leaving the body. I
have cleared the passages by pressing the good qi into her body so that
the good qi can begin to help her inner circulation, especially in her
nasal area."

Coming from a famous qigong family, Lee began taking lessons from his
grandfather when he was four years old. According to Lee, qi means
the circulation of blood in the body. If the qi is weak or bad, then
diseases often follow, he says.

Electric qigong is based on traditional qigong, which originated in China. =

In his early 20s, Lee traveled to China, Thailand other countries in South =

East Asia in search of a master to help him improve his qigong.

He found Lee Ching-hun (`ca) in China and as part of his training,
took poison and learned to channel electricity by standing in a thunder
storm, an experience which he calls a "dazzling sensation."

In the first phase of his electric qigong training, Lee burned himself
repeatedly, but he persevered. In some of the qigong literature that Lee
has published, he says that a human body can accumulate electricity by
meditation and qigong exercises.

A human body is also a magnetic field, he says, and if the electricity in
the body is weak then the person's magnetic field will also be weak. He
says his body acts as a battery charger for his patients.

"I am able to cure my patients because I have been practicing qigong
for a long time. I can easily release good qi from my body to my
patients," he says. "Using electrical equipment combined with qigong [I
can] release the good qi to my patients in order to cure their illness."

On his travels in South East Asia, Lee says he can't recall how many
types of herbs, medicines and poisons he tried out to determine their
qualities and powers. But, he does know he survived four bouts of
malaria and two cases of dengue fever.

He says that he was unconscious for days after eating poisoned
mushrooms in Cambodian. "If I hadn't been healthy and hadn't
exercised qigong for many years, I would not have lived."

Though Lee has been practicing electric qigong treatment for almost 20
years in South East Asia, it wasn't until two years ago that he began his
practice in Taiwan. For the last two years, he's treated patients with
minor strokes, chronic pains, paralysis and even patients with tumors
and cancers.

Lee says many of his patients will vouch for the efficacy of his
treatments. He quotes the case of a paralyzed patient who can now
walk again with some assistance; and says doctors confirmed that a
tumor had reduced in size because of his treatments with another
patient. A young boy confined to a wheelchair can now move his arms
and legs after five treatments, Lee says.

Besides conducting electric qigong treatment, Lee promotes qigong by
teaching and publishing. "I believe that two brains are better than one,"
he says. "I hope that by spreading the practice of qigong, I am helping
more people to become not only healthier, but also more spiritual."

Lee believes there are some fundamental steps to qigong exercises.

"First of all, you have to release the toxins in your body in order to get =

rid of illnesses. Then there is meditation, and last, exercising qigong.

"The last thing you want to do is take medicine. If you maintain your
health with qigong, you will not need medicine because your body is
constantly circulating qi, which is the most important part of maintaining =

a healthy body," Lee says.

Though seen as an ancient healing alternative, qigong and electric
qigong have been adapted by many medical institutions in Germany,
says Liu Hung-jen (), a 35 year-old psychiatrist, who has been
practicing qigong since he was in university.

Liu says the effectiveness of breathing exercises can be scientifically
assessed. "The amount of air you inhale can be measured and
monitored as it circulates around the body."

He says modified qigong breathing exercises have been used in western
medical treatments to balance the sympathetic nervous system and help
patients. "In some cases, doctors have used the breathing technique to
deal with anxiety problems."

While Lee's electric qigong treatment is new in Taiwan, it has been
practiced in China for many years. Michael Cheung (R), the
founder of the Qigong Culture Society of Taipei, is ambivalent about the
effectiveness of electric qigong. Based on nearly 50 years of practice, he =

says qi can be sorted into three categories: material, physical and
mental.

"In a material sense it is the same as light, sound or an electromagnetic
field. It is a combined electromagnetic field. When a person exercises qi
by using the proper techniques, then the radiation can be transformed
into energy inside the body," he says. "And a person can only do that
when he reaches `qi chi datian,'" [accumulated qi in the lower part of
abdomen].

Qi chi datian is most important, Cheung says, adding that once a person
is born, he or she is given qi that is stored in the lower part of the
abdomen. As a person grows older, the qi in the body begins to leak
out. "Without proper techniques to reproduce qi, a man becomes weak
and gets sick easily," Cheung says.

He says Lee's electric qigong treatment is like rubbing a piece of iron
against a magnet so that it becomes magnetized, and the good qi flows
into the patient. But he reserves judgement about the medical effects.

"Electric treatment and qigong exercise are two different stories,"
Cheung says, believing electric treatment just scratches the surface of
the skin and only represses the illness temporarily. "But when you
practice qigong, it begins a long-term process that leads to the
reorganization of your internal organs."

Cheung says qigong emphasizes meditation, breathing and harmonizing
to create a peaceful connection with nature.

"But electricity is artificial. It is not the same as using the power of
nature, so it does not last," he concludes.

Qigong for a healthy heart

By Dr Amir Farid Isahak
CHINESE Medical Theory (CMT) has different considerations from
conventional medicine when looking at the health of the heart. Whilst
Western medicine stresses exclusively on the physical integrity and
functions of the heart muscles, conductive tissues, nerves, valves and
blood vessels, CMT looks more at the influence of qi on this vital organ. =

Furthermore, the stomach and spleen are regarded as important organs
affecting the heart because these two organs extract qi and distribute it
to the heart and lungs through their meridians which are connected to
the heart.

In CMT, the "heart" does not refer to the physical heart alone, but also
to the complex body systems that affect it. The heart is controlled by
the "heart constrictor" (or "pericardium") and "triple warmer" systems
which are unknown to Western medicine. The heart is identified with
the "element" of fire, and "accumulation of excess heat" results from
unhealthy emotions and attitudes. Stress, anger, and aggression
weaken the heart. Modern medicine agrees these can precipitate
heart attacks!

While Western medicine stresses exclusively on the physical integrity
and functions of the heart muscles, conductive tissues, nerves, valves
and blood vessels, Chinese Medical Theory looks more at the influence
of qi on this vital organ.
The heart meridian extends from the heart, across the lungs, and down
the inner side of both arms to the lateral tips of the little fingers. In
comparison, medical doctors are familiar with the "referred" pain from
the heart that runs down the inner side of the left arm only.

Where the heart meridian passes the wrist-crease level is the important
heart acupuncture point H7, or Shenmen. Stimulation here will calm
both the heart and emotions. At the centre of the palm is another
important point (P8, Laogong) along the pericardium meridian which
then splits, with one branch ending at the tip of the ring finger to
connect with the triple warmer meridian which continues on the back of
the arm.

A branch of the heart meridian extends along the oesophagus into the
head to the tongue, eyes and brain. Thus the heart and mind are
connected. Emotions and mental stress affect the heart. Conversely,
ailments of the heart affect the emotions and mental stability. The mind-
heart connection is so strong that in CMT, the term "heart" is also
synonymous with the mind. Their understanding of mind-body (or
psychosomatic) medicine was well ahead of western medicine!

Stimulation of the energy points along the heart meridian is therefore
beneficial for the heart as well as for emotional and mental health.

Another branch of the heart meridian branches down to the small
intestines. So the heart is connected to the stomach meridian and to the
intestines as well. In Western medicine, the stomach and intestines
absorb food for energy and nutrients. In CMT, they also absorb qi for
direct supply to the heart via the meridians. This connection probably
also explains why any intense emotion will not only excite our heart, but
also gives that "butterflies in the tummy" feeling!

Qigong exercises Even in western medicine, it is now accepted that both
physical and emotional stress are important in the causation of heart
disease. For this reason, qigong exercises for the heart must be done
as slowly as possible, especially for those who have heart problems.
Both the heart and mind must be calm. Negative emotions and worries
must be forgotten and restlessness avoided when doing the exercises.

The movements must be smooth, calm and relaxed. This will cause a
smooth flow of healing qi internally. Physical exertion must be avoided,
especially in the beginning. Upward slopes must be avoided to prevent
such exertion when doing the qigong walk. As the heart condition
improves, the movements and walk can be faster, but always in a calm,
relaxed manner.

Qigong exercises for the heart are not aimed at stressing the heart at
all. Instead, the exercises cause the blood flow rate to increase only
slightly.

But the increased qi makes the blood circulation more efficient, opening
up small blood vessels, and nourishing more tissues, including the heart
muscles themselves. There is no strain or risk to the heart. Often the
effect can be obvious with flushing and warming of previously cold
extremities.

For specific improvement to the flow of qi to the heart, the stimulation
of Shenmen and Laogong points is most effective, as these activate the
heart and pericardium meridians respectively. Shenmen can be
stimulated by wrist exercises, acupressure massage, or acupuncture.

Laogong is easily stimulated during many qigong exercises. For
example, this is done in the One-Step-Point variation of the qigong walk
(see previous articles), when you clench your hands each time your foot
touches the ground during the second step, and keeping them clenched
while you pause.

For better effect, the middle fingers should deliberately press at the
centres of the palms.

The stimulation of Laogong is perhaps most effectively done with
exercises using the rolling stick, which is a foot-long wooden stick
(about 3 cm in diameter, with smooth rounded ends) that is continually
rotated in between the palms as the body and arms execute various
exercises.

Complementary therapies for the heart

If you seek alternative/complementary therapies for heart disease, it is
best to make sure that the diagnosis and evaluation are accurate and
confirmed by a good cardiologist. Any misdiagnosis can be fatal.

However, some terms and evaluation criteria used in complementary
medicine may be different and even not relevant to conventional
medicine. But the heart that is getting healthier by complementary
evaluation should also be healthier by conventional standards. Aerobics
exercises to improve heart and lung function should also be part of the
overall health plan.

With all the cutting-edge technology and advances in cardiology and
cardiac surgery, is there still a place for complementary therapy for
heart disease? There are many testimonies about the effectiveness of
qigong and various other complementary therapies, in some cases,
even enabling patients to avoid heart surgery. I would like to share one
such story.

Several years ago, a good friend of mine was diagnosed as having
terminal heart disease. He was given six months to live, even with the
best medical drugs available.

He had no hope and so prepared for his death. He made a farewell trip
to his birthplace in India, to bid farewell to his elders. There, he had a =

fateful meeting with a Professor of Unani Medicine, who advised him to
try Unani medications. He agreed, and his condition improved steadily.
Now he is in good health, although he still has to take his medications.

Hello,

I hope that if some of you on this list put have any knowledge about
this matter or knows of anyone that does that you will forward the
information to me.
About about me - I study psychology, I have a girlfriend - and I
have it for about three years. I am 25 years old, and I have had
some problems with ejaculation the last couple of years. I've tried
to cure it with yoga, tantra, acupuncture, tai chi, with some of
mantak chia books about sex but none have really helped yet.

Since I was about 19 years old, I have had problems during
intercourse - I would get very fast ejaculation in matter of
seconds. Since then other problems has arisen (but this problem
about too quick ejaculation has in periods been better - but right
now it is really bad). I read a lot of books, and some books claimed
that it was good to preserve the semen. I thought OK (because in the
years 20-23 I didn't have any lover) then I'll stop masturbating,
and I stopped. But then the ejaculations just came during dreams.
When I was about 21 years old I began getting various kinds of
symptoms after nocturnal emissions.

At first I always got a sore throat, sore eyes - like they were
burning - and I felt dry like a desert on my skin. Then the symptoms
changed (I never went to see a doctor - cause what would he say?)
maybe it was caused by some of the treatments I that I tried or some
of the exercises that I did (like headstand I yoga). Now it became
more traditional symptoms like backpains (that during the days that
followed moved up along the spine) and I felt a pressure against the
lower part of scrotum (not the testes but against the lower part on
some of the threads that leads from the body to the testes).

During the last six moth - I somehow stopped having nocturnal
emissions (I believe it was caused by the yogic headstand), but
still if I got ejaculation together with my girlfriend (which
happened about one or two times a month though - I quite often
succeeded in getting no ejaculation) I would get the former
mentioned symptoms. But during these six months I developed some
stomach pains - just above the hips (the doctor said that it
probably was stress or something emotional) and because the doctor
couldn't help I went to a another acupuncturist.

Somehow the focus with the acupuncturist became the symptoms I got
when I got ejaculation instead of the stomach pains. He answered
quickly before I could tell more thorougly about my situation that
the cause was loss of 'jing'. He stung me with some needles and gave
me some medicine and said I should take care of not getting
ejaculations for a while. I was happy that he at least had something
to offer. But after I had taken the medicine (herbals: called jin
suo gu jing wan) for a week I got a nightly ejaculation, and then
the day after it came again. My symptoms was two things: tiredness
and pressure against the lower scrotum - and some of the threads in
scrotum even began to swell and get hard (it felt like swollen lymph
nodes).

When I told the acupuncturist this, he then he prescribed some other
herbpills called Kai Kit Wan - some pills against prostatitis. But
last night (and this is why I write this mail) I got ejaculation TWO
times during the night - it might be part of the healing process (I
know nothing!!!!!!!!) but as I am writing this email the pressure in
scrotum is slowly rising and I would be very surprised if it not
will become worse the following days. And I feel so very tired and
confused ..................

I have some other things I would like to mention - my girlfriend
began getting very irregular periods after she had been with me for
a while, and a few months a go she was diagnosed with some kind of
bacteria called streptococcus (I don't know how it is spelled - and
whether this is the right name in English). When she was diagnosed
with it she was not told anything about that it could have comed
from me. But now (without still not knowing anything for sure) it
seems likely to me that it could have been me that have transferred
it to her (I have only had sex with one person before her though).
But of course it can also be other way around - maybe???

Another thing is that I have also had some itchy feelings just
inside and around anus for quite some time now (and the doctor just
gave me some salvia) could this be related to my other symptoms?
My hamstrings (my muscles on my backlegs) are short, which makes it
impossible to do certain yogic postures cause my back just becomes
round instead of remaining straight - can this be related?

Does anybody know anything that could help me, or tell me something
about what is happening.

Best regards
Henrik Nielsen, Denmark

Physical Therapy in an acute care hospital for many years. I'm now a
certified herbalist and have been researching and studying
alternative approaches for healing since my diagnoses of MS in 1990.

Recently I was guided to a gifted Acupuncturist/Chiropractor, Dr Drew
Karp of Ft Lauderdale FL. He has helped me immensely through
application of Bioenergetics, Acupuuncture and Kinesiology. During my
2nd visit Dr Karp gave me one of his personal discoveries called a
Global Water Card.

He instructed me to attach the card with a rubber band or tape to the
side bottom of a water glass or bottle. The 1"x 2" plastic card has
an emblem of sorts (Dr Karp says the marks are energetic frequencies -
signatures). They are to face the water in the container. He offered
me a printed paper with info regarding the card and told me to read
it and use the card regularly on all beverages but preferably pure
water.

I returned in a week excited to share my feelings about my new found
energy and the favorable taste/texture appeal of the water. It has
been over 2 months since I started regularly using the Global Water
Card and I continue to feel hydrated. My skin is softer and silky. I
drink water more regularly because of the soft feel it has in my
mouth. My increased energy level has become expected. I repeatedly
feel good each day.

Since I've been going to Dr Karp I have learned many interesting
things. I have decided to market the Global Water and Energy Cards
with him because simply put, they work. I offered these amazing cards
in my newsletter to anyone with a meaningful request. I asked in
return they join my online Yahoo Focus Group to report their findings
while using the Gobal Water Card and soon the Energy Card. I have a
small subscriber base of 350 and I received 30 request. Some have
joined and others probably put the card in a draw to think about it
later. Those who have joined are reporting quite favorable
experiences and are using the cards for an array of things. Besides
reaping the benefits of a hydrated body it has been successfully used
for plants, pets, sprains, bruses and even mellowing the taste of red
wine.

I am still looking for people interested in receiving a water card
free and joining my newsletter subscriber base and Yahoo Focus Group.
If anyone reading this would like to participate in this study please
email me .

I look forward to sharing them and receiving input. Here's a chance
to experience something that is cutting edge and brand new to the
natural health community. If you are or know an Alternative Health

giving cards for your/their use.

Expert Proposes Combined Western, Chinese Medicine for SARS
Treatment

A professor here has put forward a proposal for Chinese medicine to
operate alongside western medicine at Hong Kong's public hospitals
in order to treat severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

In an article appearing in the Chinese-language Ta Kung Po newspaper
here Tuesday, Li Zhizhong, a visiting professor of the School of
Chinese Medicine at the Hong Kong Baptist University, has once again
called on the Hong Kong government to institute the combined Chinese
and western medicine treatment for SARS patients here.

He proposed that while the intensive care unit for rescuing SARS
patients should continue to adopt western medicine, the ordinary
wards should combine western medicine treatment with Chinese
medicine treatment in shortening the pathology of SARS and
minimizing the number of patients in need of treatment at the
intensive care units.

Li also recommended that efforts of the schools of Chinese medicine
at the three major universities in Hong Kong be coordinated to work
with western medicine experts in diagnostic and therapeutic
processes.

He said Chinese medicine should be further popularized for health
maintenance in Hong Kong.

Subject: Therapy duration and condition improvements?
celaetaittre...
Send Email Send Email

Hello,

I have a question about what kind of improvements, and in how much
time, we can expect them when having treatments of acupuncture. Let
me give more details.
I worked as a computer developer, and the last two years were very
tough, with very big stress. I have pain in my neck and lower back
since more than a year. I also started to have some pain in my left
wrist, my elbows and my left knee. I had to stop working recently
because it was getting worst and worst. I told all of these to my
acupuncturist, and I got 6 treatments within the last three weeks for
all of my problems above. But what I can observe is that by pain in
my lower back, my wrist and my knee are getting worst. I now feel
more uncomfortable when I sit, I started to limp a bit because of my
knee, and I now have problem manipulating objects of 5 to 10 pounds
with my left hand. For the neck, I have no improvements nor more
damage until now.
What could I expect from acupuncture? Is it normal that things were
getting worst until now? What is the minimal number of treatments
that I should have before seeing any improvements?
My acupuncturist says that it is related to the high level of
humidity around here this summer, and that I would have been even
worst without these treatments. But I am not very confident in this
assertion, and it seems to me that my condition was getting worst
within the 12 hours after some treatments, and not over a long period
of time as if it was related to my environment. He also told me that
I should persevere, since every person is sick in its own way.
What sould I think about all these?

Thanks a lot for any comments or recommandation

I agree with your acupuncturist's findings (high level of
humidity around here this summer). You may be experiencing "bi"
syndrome which caused your joints pain. Though, I would recommend
medical check up by an MD to rule out your joints pain(if you have
not already done so). In my personal experience, if the condition
does not improve at all after 10 treatments, I would refer my
patient out.

From what you've said, in my opinion, you're most likely running out
of gas(physically and mentally exhausted). The Chinese called
it, "Qi stagnation" or stuck energy. I would stick with the current
treatment, get yourself plenty of rest, add some deep tissue
massage, and join a stress reduction class.

Good luck,

EM

Iona has written several great books on the subject, but I don't

the porn I just deleted. Perhaps you can take a look. Click Members,
and sort by Joined date. Go to the last page and find some suspicious

Hello Everyone,

I just found this group on Yahoo, sounds like a great one :)
I just recently realized that my goal in life is to become an
Acupuncturist, but it's a long ways from now. I am finishing a degree
in computer science and I am looking into TCM/Acupuncture schools in
the New York area. I've read a great deal on Chinese Medicine and
Acupuncture, but I don't feel that it's enough.
I would like to volunteer with an acupuncturist/TCM doctor, just to
see what it's like and get more real exposure rather than just
textbook knowledge. Does anyone know if this is possible? Does anyone
know an acupuncturist/TCM doctor in NY (preferably in Brooklyn) who
wouldn't mind a very eager student?

Is there anything else I can do? Any suggestions in general to a
future student? I'll greatly appreciate any comments, suggestions,
etc.
Thank you so much!!!!

Hello, I have been learning acupuncture for several years in 2 different schools
and I am surprised by a recurring difference in their conception, which in my
view is fundamental:
1/ according to some, the sequence of how the perverse energy enters the body
goes like this: tae yang/shao yang/yangming/tae yin/xue yin/ shao yin
2/ according to others, the order is reversed in the last two levels in yang and
in yin and therefore goes like this: tae yang/yang ming/shao yang/tae yin/shao
yin/xue yin.

I believe this fundamental difference has important implications and I would
welcome your comments to contribute putting an end to this recurring bone of
contention among various schools.
Kind Regards
Gerard
