PRE-FESTIVAL WORKSHOP
THE COMPULSORY WEAPONS – PRINCIPLES OF WOOD & STEEL!
Instructor: Dr. Gary Torres
Date(s): May 30 – 31, 2007
Location: East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg PA
Imagine being able to pick up nearly any household item and use it as a weapon
for self-
defense! This is the goal of traditional compulsory weapons training. The
compulsory
weapons consist of the double-edged "jian," the single curved edged "saber," the
staff and
the spear. Each of these weapons possesses characteristics particular to
themselves (hence
the 4 compulsory weapons) that can be found individually or in combination in
dozens of
like items, from the pen in your desk to the steak knife in your drawer or the
keys in your
pocket.
In this eye-opening workshop, Sigong Gary Torres, lineage holder of the
legendary Kwok
system of kung fu, will teach you the "principle based" training of the 4
compulsory
weapons. You'll be taught a small portion of each of the training forms, not
pretty
competition forms, but combat forms designed to teach you the weapons essence.
Once
learned, you'll be shown how to translate the characteristics to other common
objects
found in your home and office.
Discover why Sigong Torre's legions of fans just keeps growing as you delve into
this
fascinating workshop that will teach you the ancient principles of traditional
kungfu
weapons training. Learn the essence of wood and steel as you work with jian,
saber, staff
and spear. See the traditional weapons in an entirely new perspective. You'll
never look at
your butter knives and chopsticks the same again.
