We are at this time awash in Summer Fire qi, which began on May 7.
By
tradition Summer is the only season in which 2 elements rule
different
time frames in one season, causing two distinct 5 Elemental illness
patterns. Every other season causes only one type of pulse & illness
pattern.

May 7 to July 6, Fire element will rule, and from July 7 to August
6,
Earth element will rule.

Pulse picture in Fire element time: the normal pulse will be
luxuriant,
exuberant and will carry the hook signature. The hook is felt
because
heart qi arrives exuberant but departs deficient.

In illness two forms will present. If Fire element is in Excess, the
pulse will arrive luxuriant and leave luxuriant, so that the hook
will
be absent. If Fire element is in Deficiency, the pulse will arrive
deficient and leave luxuriant, so that again the hook will again be
absent.

If you feel a clear hook, all is well, if not an illness is brewing.

What cases to expect?
Fire in Excess - boils, weeping sores and Heat and Fire in the skin.
Fire in Deficiency - oppression on Heart, and lung infections which
produce thin scanty mucus.

Reliable signs which signify a Heart or Fire problem:

1. a central furrow on tongue reaching tip
2. Heart creases in lobes of ear
3. tender left LV 14
4. tender left K 23 to 27
5. a possible malar flush which heats up cheeks in afternoon
6. red capillaries in the sclera, whites of the eyes

Best way to treat a Heart Excess - never reduce it. This is not a
real
real Excess but a Deficient situation masquerading as an Excess.

A sound generic point prescription for any Heart based qi
disturbance,
whether Excess or Deficiency, is as follows:

Between 11 AM & 1 PM - needle Water point H 3 on HT channel
Between 5 PM & 7 PM - needle Fire point K 2 on K channel

Use shallow insertions of 0.2 mm. Keep for 20 minutes, no
stimulation,
whichever angle is fine. Remove and plug hole, this is pristine qi.
