Education/Licensure/Certification: Current and valid license to
practice Issued by the State of Ca. acupuncture Board. Current CPR
Card. Graduate of an accredited school of acupuncture approved by
the State of California Acupuncture Board including the completion
of four academic years of education with a minimum of 1548 hours of
theory including biology, organic biochemistry, physics, psychology,
anatomy and physiology, pathology, nutrition and vitamins (400
hours); history of medicine, medical terminology (30 hours);
clinical sciences such as internal medicine, pharmacology,
neurology, surgery and clinical medicine including dentistry,
nursing, chiropractic and homeopathy, western pharmacology and CPR
(128) hours; Tai Chi, Chi Kung, traditional Oriental medicine theory
and diagnosis, needling techniques, and acupressure (660 hours);
herbology (300 hours including botany); practice management and
ethics (30 hours); and 800 hours of clinical training. Post graduate
degree preferred such as Doctor of Naturopathy (N.SD), Doctor of
Oriental Medicine (D.O.M.) or in a related field. Completion of a
clinical internship-training program approved by the State of
California Acupuncture Board
Qualifications: Current and valid license to practice Acupuncture
issued by the State of California Acupuncture Board. Maintain
currency of Acupuncture licensure in the State of California. Must
be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant full time experience as a Licensed
Acupuncturist or equivalent (10,000 hours). Computer skills- ability
to write policies and procedures. Ability to multi-task- verbal &
communication skills // computer skills- writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Spanish speaking.
Duties: Reviews acupuncture referrals, assesses appropriateness of
the referral, communicates with referring provider as needed and
makes referrals to outside acupuncturists. Tracks and logs referrals
as required on computer system. Develops cost effective protocols
and guidelines for treatment plans. Works with other Kaiser areas to
develop best practices in acupuncture. Trains, educates, and
coordinates Kaiser treatment protocols with non- Kaiser
acupuncturists. Meets with members for initial consult; plans and
develops a treatment plan. Makes a recommendation to outside
acupuncturist. Plans, develops, assesses and evaluates care provided
to members by non-Kaiser acupuncture treatments. Determines and
evaluates appropriateness for repeat treatments. Arranges and
monitors follow-up appointments. Encourages member to follow
prescribed course of care. Develops and tracks clinical outcomes and
keeps statistical data as deemed appropriate. Produces reports as
needed. Keeps patient records, completes correspondence as needed,
interfaces with outside referrals, and various departments, staff,
physicians or agencies. Identifies and recommends opportunities for
cost saving and improving quality of care. Performs as an
acupuncturist. Provides accurate diagnosis, supported by medical
findings based on standardized examination and techniques generally
accepted by the medical community. This includes Traditional Chinese
Medicine and Western diagnostic techniques. Produces complete
accurate, uniform and replicable examination. Documents finding on
chart. Provides medically necessary acupuncture, consults,
assessments and treatments when requested/authorized by family
physicians/specialists. Provides an accurate diagnosis, supported by
medical findings based on standardized examination and techniques
generally accepted by the medical community. This includes TCM
(Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Western diagnostic techniques.
Produces complete, accurate, uniform and replicable examinations.
Provides quality treatment to cure or relieve the medical condition
causing the patient's complaint. Documents all treatments and
patient's response to acupuncture therapy on patient's chart. When
working in the Workers compensation system, states an opinion
whether anatomic loss, functional loss and physical complaints of
the patient are work related, and writes a comprehensive medical
report describing the degree of injury consistent with Workers
Compensation terminology and requirements. Consistently supports
compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's
Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of
information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with
ethics and integrity, reporting non compliance, and adhering to
applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations,
accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser
Permanente's policies and procedures.
Notes: Travel to different location- works primarily days, but
evenings and week-ends may be necessary
