decided to "say uncle" and extend the deadline for registration to
the Annual Zhang San Feng Festival to May 31st. The deadline for pre-
ordering tee shirts is May 23, however, after which we will be
removing the option from on-line registration. If you haven't been
able to make up your mind and figured it was too late to register by
now, you've got another chance.

Festival weekend is 3 weeks away so don't miss this opportunity to be

The Annual Zhang San Feng Festival - a legendary event returns!!


Hi All,

I joined this group recently but have yet to introduce myself. In
doing so now, I apologize ahead of time and ask everyone's
indulgence, as I'll be including a shameless plug for a terrific
event my wife and I are hosting, one fairly relevant to the group
topic. In fact, many of you may have attended our event in the past,
or at least heard of it. My name is Jim Donnelly and together with my
wife, Loretta, I manage a new organization called the American
Society of Internal Arts, or A.S.I.A. Some of you may know my wife
(maiden name "Wollering") as she spent most of the 1990's studying
with the late taijiquan Grandmaster Jou Tsung Hwa, author of the "Dao
of Taijiquan." Throughout most of that period, she was also
Operations Manager of Jou's legendary 103-acre school, the Tai Chi
Farm, and Operations Director of the Annual Zhang San Feng Festival,
the event he founded in the mid 1970's. For those of you not familiar
with the Festival, it was a weekend event held at the Tai Chi Farm
once a year where attendees paid one price and attended all the
workshops they wanted to, all weekend long. The workshops were given
by many of the top people in internal arts, Chinese medicine and
related fields and, at its height, the Festival drew over 700
attendees a year. It was very inexpensive fun offering a friendly
atmosphere of sharing and cooperation, the kind of event whose
endearing warmth kept you coming back every year.

Sadly, Grandmaster Jou was killed in an auto accident in 1998, the
last Festival was held on the Farm in 1999, and the property was sold
in 2000. From then until now, the Zhang San Feng Festival has
remained in limbo. Fast forward to 2003.

For the last two years Loretta and I have been working towards
reviving the Festival. This has included months spent scouting
locations, in addition to some pretty intense negotiations with the
folks who run the place we finally settled on. Along the way we've
picked up some very helpful sponsors including TigerClaw, Kungfu
Qigong Magazine, and Inside Kungfu Magazine. For the past year we've
been mounting a long-term ad campaign to let everyone know we're back
and most recently our efforts were written about in Doctor Nan
Lu's "Traditional Chinese Medicine World Newspaper."
So far, the positive buzz has been more than we could have hoped for
with folks having started to register for this year's revival as far
back as this past January.

At the same time we've been working on the Festival revival, Loretta
and I decided to take this opportunity to build something more from
the ashes. Thus A.S.I.A. was born. This year A.S.I.A. is a membership
organization providing discounts to the Festival for its members. In
addition, members will receive our newsletter, which is shaping up to
be quite a nice little publication. Next year A.S.I.A. will launch a
trade membership program for professionals in the internal arts,
Chinese medicine and related fields (wellness industry). Wishing to
keep it simple, the trade membership goes hand-in-hand with an
affiliate program that offers commissions to its members for signing
people up for the Festival. In this way, industry professionals are
encouraged to help us continue to grow the Festival while giving us
the opportunity to support their schools and businesses by providing
a new source of revenue. Details will be announced at an open meeting
which will be held at this year's Festival, followed by details
provided on our website. Below is a packaged blurb about this year's
