Hello to everyone on this group-

Hope this New Year is treating you well. I just wanted to let you know that I
had to change
the membership practice on this group. A long time ago I had to change it to
moderate the
messages since it seemed that mostly spam was being sent.
I also had a problem with the account with the calander.
I apologize for the annoyances.

Looking forward to having all the members participate in discussions again.

Does anyone have any success stories that they would like to share with the
group?

Thank you,

Lauren

As part of a wellness plan that includes dietary changes as well as an
exercise plan, Acupuncture can assist in balancing the body and
improving digestion and metabolism.
Many people are looking for a "magic bullet" that will allow them to
not make any lifestyle changes yet produce weight loss results.
This is an unrealistic idea, and people need to look deeper at their
health and dietary intake to see what simple changes they can make to
better themselves. Remember food is fuel for your body. It is like a
machine that needs the correct fuel (protein, vitamins, nutrients,
complex carbs, etc) to operate properly. If you put Pepsi in your gas
tank, your car wouldn't run. If your body isn't getting the correct
fuel, it will not run well or efficiently either.
The healthiest way is the slow way, but that allows your body to
adjust correctly. Remember, a person does not gain 1oo pounds in a
month, so they can't expect for it to be gone in that time.

<<what is the difference between multi needling and needling based on
pulse diagnosis for treating a disease?>>

There are different theories in Acupuncture, and different ways of
approaching things.

Many Licensed Acupuncturists are taught not only the Acupuncture
points but also the theory and philosophy behind point selection.
To come up with the best treatment plan for an individual patient,
many factors must be considered- Acupuncture is a Holistic medicine,
and as such must take a look at the whole person and their
medical/health history to prepare the best plan for them.
Part of this includes checking the speed, rate and quality of the
Pulses (there is one Pulse position for each of the 12 organ systems)
as well as look for any physiological changes on the tongue. This
give clues on what particular organ systems are being effected/not
working up to par.
These readings, as well as a complete health & medical history allow
the Acupuncturist to understand the root cause of a patients ailments,
and decide the best course of action for it.
There are some people who skip this step, and are just doing trigger
point acupuncture- or looking for sensitive spots. It is not something
I as a Licensed Acupuncturist recommend. There is more to the actions
to Acupuncture than just finding a sore spot on a person.

Hope this helps to clear things up a bit.

ZUANQUAN ZHANDOU: WATER FIST COMBAT (July 12 - 13, 2008)
In xingyiquan, this classical form is known as "Zuanquan,"
or"Drilling Fist," beginning with a sweeping downward action of the front palm,
accompanied by a sinking of the torso and coupled with a sudden brisk upward
rising punch. The intention of this practice is to create an attitude like
that of ocean waves. Internal Garden presents Shifu Alan Marshall, senior
instructor of the Gompa School in Arlington, TX, instructing a two-day
intensive program of Zuanquan from the Li family tradition. Students will
learn both health and martial concepts of this amazing internal martial art
based on the Chinese five element theory (wuxing).

Each posture of Li family xingyiquan is a very powerful self defense tool in and
of itself.
Each of the fists can be practiced on the right and left sides thus allowing you
to learn the basic stance and movements of Water Fist as a linked form that can
be
practiced alone or in combination with other xingyiquan fists. Shifu
Marshall will explain proper body mechanics, stances, postures, stepping
actions for full body power and applications of the Zuanquan. You will
be introduced to two-person games and basic applications.

PLUS FRIDAY NIGHT WORKSHOP ***FREE*** FOR THOSE WHO SIGN FOR THE WEEKEND!

ZUANGQUAN QIGONG (Friday July 11, 2008)
The symbolic movement of water in xingyiquan is that of one rising and
the other falling. Li family qigong makes use of visualization and movement
with breathing exercises to stimulate the related organs and meridians. In
Zuanquan Qigong, if the action is done correctly it brings an adaptogen-like
balance to the health of the kidneys and bladder organs and meridians. The
prostate or uterus is also benefited by daily exercise of the Li style
xingyiquan water exercise. Included will be qigong visualizations, color
imagery, time of day for best practice and how water qigong fits into the
five element theory.

(Natural News) The World Health Organization's International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC) is adding working the night shift to a list of
possible carcinogens, after conducting an analysis of the existing research on
the topic.

The IARC reviewed studies on night workers, primarily nurses and airline crews,
and found that those who worked overnight were more likely to develop cancer
than those who worked during the day.

"There was enough of a pattern in people who do shift work to recognize
that there's an increase in cancer," said IARC carcinogen classifications
unit head Vincent Cogliano.

Animal studies have shown that animals forced to stay awake at night and sleep
in the light develop more malignant tumors and die sooner than animals with
normal sleep cycles. Research on humans has also linked years of overnight work
among women to higher breast cancer rates, with a similar effect on prostate
cancer in men.

Once factor behind the link may be melatonin, which a hormone that the body
produces primarily at night. Melatonin has a role in regulating the body's
internal clock, and also plays a role in the immune system. Because melatonin
breaks down when the body is exposed to light, workers who sleep during the day
and are active in well-lit places at night may have an excess of melatonin.

In addition, overnight workers tend to be sleep deprived, because it is
impossible to fully reverse the body's internal clock.

"Night shift people tend to be day shift people who are trying to stay
awake at night," said Mark Rea, director of the Light Research
  Center at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute.

Sleep deprivation has been linked to a variety of negative health effects,
including suppression of the immune system.

According to Aaron Blair of the National Cancer Institute, switching between
day and night work is even harder on the body than only working at night. Blair
recommends that anyone who has to work at night make an effort to sleep in a
darkened room after work.

"The balance between light and dark is very important for your body,"
Blair said. "Just get a dark night's sleep."gen classifications unit

Weekend One Fall 2008 - 19 lines of the Neijing

In his preface, Zhang Zhong Jing states that before
writing his work, he studied the Nei Jing Su Wen and the Yin Yang Da
Lun (Great Treatise on Yin and Yang). Many scholars believe that the
Yin Yang Da Lun refers to Chapters 66 through 74 of the Su Wen. These
chapters comprise nearly one-third of the entire Su Wen and cover the
doctrine of Wu yun liu qi (5 periods and 6 qi). Wu yun liu qi explains
what ancient Masters knew about the relationship between climate and
other occurrences, and particularly health and illness. The first 3
chapters explain basic concepts and the later chapters clarify the
application of these concepts.
Chapter 74 lays out the effects of climate changes on human health and
how to diagnose and treat these illnesses based on the flavor and
temperature of herbs. It is also in this chapter that the famous "19
lines" are provided. The first weekend of the program will lay the
foundation for studying the Shang Han Lun by illuminating the concepts
of Wu yun liu qi (5 periods and 6 qi) and liu jing (6 Channels or
Conformations: tai yang, shao yang etc.); broadening our understanding
of Biao & Ben ~ Manifestation and Root (sometimes called root and
branch); clarifying the effects of climate change on health and
disease; illustrating the clinical usefulness of the "19 lines"; and
setting the stage for understanding formulas based on flavor and qi
(temperature).
Fascinated? Register today as seating is limited.
Topics covered:
Neijing Chapter 74: Great Treatise on the Utmost True
Five Zang Organs Categorization
Six Climactic Qi Categorization
Pathology Differentiation
Symptom Differentiation
Five Evils Differentiation
Nanjing 50th Difficulty
Spiritual Axis [lingshu] chapter on the Five Evils [wuxie]
Formulas from the Treatise of the Straightforward Study on Cold Damage
The Treatise on Cold Damage and Complex Disease, Chapter on Pulse

Hi all,

Just a reminder that we have Dr. John Painter visiting Internal Gardens School
of Classical
Taijiquan in Northern New Jersey September 19-21, 2008 (see below for full
description)
to teach "Thunder Palm" from his system, Jiulong Baguazhang. Baguazhang is one
of the
three primary internal arts, the other two being taiji, and xingyi. While the
three arts
function differently in terms of strategy and application, they share much the
same
foundation. Thus a student of one of the arts can benefit from numerous aspects
of the
training and techniques taught in the other two arts.

For those of you who have never attended a workshop with Dr. Painter, he is a
great deal
of fun to study with, his teaching methodology makes the most complex training
concepts
easy and accessible, and you'll most certainly come away with lots of useful
information.
As always, those who sign for the full weekend, receive the Friday night
workshop for
FREE.

Whether you're a student of bagua, a student of one of the other "internals," or
simply a
martial artist looking for some information that can give you an edge in our own
art,
consider giving yourself a treat. Register now (for the early bird discount) and
come see
why Black Belt Magazine calls Dr. Painter "One of the most sought after
instructors in

BAGUAZHANG POWERS OF THE THUNDER PALM: FU-ZHANG (SEPT 20 - 21, 2008)

In China folk legend says that thunder begins underneath the ground as a
rumbling sound
or vibration. This vibration does not shake the earth like an earthquake. It is
rather the
expression of great vibratory energy. The suddenness of the action is such that
it frightens
or startles all those whom it touches. It is sudden and swift flowing outward
from the
epicenter in all directions, Like the circular ripple made by a rock striking a
still pond.
There is no one place of focused energy, rather a huge ball of expanding power
in all
directions. This is the feeling of thunder energy. Its vibrations are so great
that they can
disrupt the very structure of the things it passes into. Thunder palm is like a
great storm
with lightning, swirling winds and booming thunder. The body spins rapidly in
any
direction while the palm shapes are used to deflect or strike from the outside
and also to
grasp from the inside. Thunder palm can repulse and shock or it can embrace and
hold an
enemy similar to holding a large barrel. One taken into the storm is thrown this
way and
that by the swirling winds directed from the eye of the storm (your center).

ZHEN ZHANG QIGONG (Sept 19, 2008)

In Jiulong Baguazhang practice Qigong training involves standing postures and
circle
walking forms to stimulate Qi flow and internal organs. Each of the eight palms
is
associated with specific Qi meridians. The Thunder Posture stimulates the health
of the
Pericardium Channel and the Triple Burner Channel and also stimulates liver Qi
energy.
Circle walking with proper visual imagery opens the Pericardium Qi flow and
creates a
circuit of Qi through the Shixuan points of the fingertips. It also stimulates
the Qi cauldron
located in the center of your chest on the Chong Mai (thrusting channel). We
will examine
how to activate the energy of Zhen Zhang Qigong in this three hour program
preceding
the weekend martial art workshop Students are encouraged to purchase Dr.

T'ai Chi is an ancient Chinese form of exercise, which balances one's
Yin and Yang Qi. Qi, is distinguished as vital energy or energy from
the universe. T'ai Chi is characterized by soft, slow flowing
movements that emphasize precision rather than brutal strength. T'ai
Chi is both mindful and meditative which gives one innumerable
benefits.

In celebration for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Dr. Jiliang Liu will be
hosting T'ai Chi seminars in New York City at Central Park's

Insurance and I'm needing to know what cpt code to use for insurance.
We use needles with electric...if anyone can help I would greatly

Hello,

I live in the Bay area of California and just went to my first
acupuncturist appointment in Berkeley. It was really intense for me.
But then, I've always been a very sensitive individual.

I was given Xiao Yao Wan at the end of the session and have been
taking only 16 pills a day, and can't believe how relaxed I feel
compared to normal. Also, since my appointment, I keep finding myself
wanting to give in to sleepiness, ..where I used to be chronically
tired, but never gave into my own exhaustion, staying up late, with
anxiety and waking up early to my kids.. sensitive to the noise. I'm
normally very high strung. All of the sudden, I find I can lay down
at any time and fall asleep.(not that I ought to make a habit of this!)

I was also very anxious at my appointment and felt extremely
"protective" of my own inner stagnancy of qi. Does that make sense?
I was really surprised at myself.. knowing my own desperation for
healing, with so many years of pain, and then going into a mini-panic
as soon as I felt the needles go in, and MOVEMENT, ensue. I was
frustrated with myself for having that inner "fight" with the
Movement, while laying there. Wish I would have just relaxed and let
it "flow".

I started dripping with sweat and realized I was trying like mad to
hold back tears and an emotional wave that came over me. I had all
kinds of stomach action going on that I'd never felt before. It was
quite the fascinating experience. I think I also feel more pain than
most because a couple places began to hurt too much and I actually had
those needles pulled out when I couldn't take the throbbing anymore.

Interestingly, my 11 year old daughter was in her first appointment,
as well, directly across the hall from me, in another room and the
practitioner chuckled as he told me she was like mellow jello, as she
lay there. My daughter, who deals with daily headaches and occasional
disastrous migraines.. from birth, was given Zhi Bai di Huang.

We both walked out and within minutes, our heads had little light pain
throbbing going on.. just slightly annoying.. not horrible. Hers more
intense than mine. Lastly, we both wanted to just SLEEP, but we had
to drive home before the crazy freeway traffic came into being!!

I know so little. Would love to hear any thoughts on this stuff.

Thank you for letting me share.

Hi there, I'm launching a practice and I cannot find a copy of the
form that you can give patients to submit to their insurance company
for reimbursement. The form I'm thinking of is a single page with
codes on it for acupuncture first treatment, follow up, with e-stim,
no e-stim. It also had codes for common diagnosis such as neck pain,
low back, etc...

If anyone has this form on file, would you share it with me?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

No, there is no conclusive evidence that electroacupuncture helps thyroid
conditions. If there were it would become the standard of treatment. That does
not mean that it might not assist. You should examine the book 'Cross Currents'
by Dr. Robert Becker to examine the topic further. His research suggests that
the greatest benefits for deep changes in the cells from electroacupuncture
comes at ELF currents, but that the results are inconclusive. I am an
acupuncturist practicing electroacupuncture currently. I will review my
research CD specifically in regard to thyroid research and put some cites for
briefs on thyroid research & electroacupuncture out there for the group, if
you're interested.

Yours,

Jonathan Golden

Hi all :)

This is my first post. I decided to try acupuncture for many things,
including hormone balance, insulin resistance, fertility, and weight
management. I've done two treatments and have three more to go. I
have to say that I feel WONDERFUL, especially right after the
treatment.

My acupuncturist put me on lotus leaf as well. That is fairly strong
but if it works then it is worth it.

I am now telling everyone that they should try it. :)

The only pin that hurt was the one that went into my scalp, but even
that pain wasn't all that bad. Certainly tolerable.

Well- that is my experience thus far. I'll post more as the
treatments progress. :)

Sincerely,

Jenny

Hello Everyone I am new to the group...I am a Reiki practitioner and
would like to further my alternative healing education. I am extremely
interested in acupuncture and have been searching online for schools in
my area..I live in Michigan and the only school I have come across in
my search is the Blue Heron Accademy and that would be a 2 1/2 hour
drive for me..Does anyone know of any other teaching venues for
acupuncture in Michigan???

Respected Sir,

Acupuncture treatment can give immediate relief for pack-pain in the
first sitting itself. Please consult a qualified Acupuncturist for
treatment. Without any medicine your wife will get cured. Kindly note
that I am in India. Best Wishes. N. Anbalagan.
