Interesting:

Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) has been barred from serving the people of
New Orleans. Please take to time to read more about it; I hope you will be
motivated to sign the petition and help bring AWB back to Louisiana. People need
our care and concern. Thank you for your time and understanding.

Medical Board Bars Relief Efforts By Volunteer Acupuncturists Citing the
"Absence of a Demonstrated Need"

February 20, 2006, New Orleans

Diana Fried, Executive Director of Acupuncturists Without Borders, announced
that the Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners has forced AWB to immediately
terminate all of its humanitarian relief efforts in Louisiana. The Board, in a
letter dated February 17, 2006, gave as its reasoning, the "absence of a
demonstrated need" for relief work by out-of-state volunteer acupuncturists.

AWB has provides free treatments on a walk-in basis to residents, National
Guardsmen, EMT's, workers and officials for FEMA and the Red Cross, policemen,
firemen, utility workers, contractors, volunteers at emergency facilities, food
kitchens, health clinics, and other locations throughout the city. After
Friday's story about AWB in the Times Picayune, and today's on WDSU-TV, AWB has
received hundreds of phone calls and emails from residents about where people
can get treatments (many are urgent cries for help). At every clinic people
desperately ask when the organization will return.

AWB volunteer out-of-state licensed acupuncturists have been providing free
acupuncture treatments for stress, trauma, and insomnia at numerous locations in
New Orleans and surrounding areas, from health clinics to emergency operations
centers. To date over 4000 free treatments have been performed. AWB planned to
continue providing thousands more over the coming months.

Director Fried stated: "The Board's failure to recognize the continued need for
free acupuncture treatments is puzzling, at best. We know of only one
Louisiana-licensed individual who is willing to do this work in New Orleans and
that person can only commit to one day a month." AWB's free acupuncture
treatment program is the only known acupuncture program offering free stress
relief treatments to Hurricane victims in New Orleans and surrounding areas.

AWB will be seeking relief from DHH Secretary Cerise and the Louisiana Medical
Board. John MacDonald, AWB's Director of Policy and Planning, expressed his
doubt whether the Board will address this issue in a timely fashion . "We wrote
the Board in December. They met in mid-January but did not inform us of their
decision until their letter dated February 17th, I contacted the Board today and
was told that the Board required 72 hours notice and would not look at our
response until their meeting in late March. The Board's apparent lack of any
sense of urgency is puzzling given the desperate need for health services of all
types."

To Whom It May Concern:

As shelter coordinator here at St. Anthony/ICM shelter, we've had the pleasure
of working with the group Acupuncturists Without Borders on a weekly basis.
Since our shelter is comprised entirely of a Vietnamese community, acupuncture
is a form of healing which is deeply rooted in our culture. This group has
brought relief from pain and stress for so many. Our evacuees have been through
so much these past few months that this one measure of relief has been received
with much gratitude by them. I bear witness to the fact that our evacuees look
forward to these weekly visits. I highly recommend the services provided by
Acupuncturists Without Borders and can only hope that they continue to help
others in whatever capacity they can.

I am only a first year acupuncture student but I thought Shen here refers to
the energy (not the Sheng cycle between the 5 elements). Universal shen (from
heaven) enters the heart and a part of it resides in the heart (heart shen) and
then the heart sends this energy to Yin organs where it's stored and
transformed into more specific spirits such as Hun in the Liver, Zhi in the
Kidney, Yi in the Spleen, and P'o in the lungs.
Jing is a constitutional reserve of energy (latent potential, like DNA) that
is stored in the kidneys. It is a finite substance and get used up as the body
ages. If the person does not receive quality acquired Qi from the environment
(good food, clean air, sleep, etc.), Jing resources are used up more
frequently.
I am not sure about other relationships between Qi, Jing, and Shen other than
what I wrote above. And those thoughts are just my understanding of what I
learned so far in a 5 element school.

here I am assuming you are speaking of the tsing jing well. This is the
place where the qi can be drawn from deep within the body and brought up to
the surface so we can treat the patient. We can take the deep and internal
qi within each organ and use it. Finally, shen is the primary cycle of
energy flow throughout the body. We and either treat using tsing jing energy
or we can treat by using the shen cycle (fire, earth, metal, water, wood).
We can amplify some of our treatments by using the tsing jing points at
particular times to improve the quantity and quality of qi within the
meridian, tonify another by shifting qi from one to another meridian, or
even decrease flow of qi in another meridian (sedate another).

THe jing is the hormonal, yin or essence the Qi is the energy Yang that
moves the essence the shen the most important is the the mental state or
spiritual state or constitution. I the shen is healthy the patient will live
they say.

You need to read many books on these topics then. Sleep on it for a night
then review your notes and write. Many levels to each spritual mental
physical. Each builda controls and regulates the others. I would learn how
then write. It is oalways confusing int he beginning because you are
essentially learning a new language.

It doesn't ever get unconfusing untill around the third of forth year then
your realize it will take you about ten life times to understand this stuff
completely.

THat is the beauty prepare for a lifetime of study and a way that wil keep
your interested in your career always wanting to perfect and hone your
knowledge. There is no end. Enjoy learning how to help find balance.

Hello,
sorry to put my oar in; I am only in my 2nd year of studying TCM acupuncture
but it seems bit strange to ask a mail group this kind of question- surely this
should have been covered in your training if you are a qualified acupuncturist!?
surely this is one of this big issues that will come up with every patient and
each case is different. The Patient, symptom picture, Tongue and Pulse should
help you decide the priority of treatment. Is this not the whole point of
holistic treatment?

Jing is the internal and Shen is the external. Otherwise they are the innere and
outer aspects of the same thing.

Qi is the medium of conversation between the two. Shen supports the mind, jing
supports the body. Qi pervades the two mediums and connects them. So, Jing and
Shen are connected through Qi.

Shen is finer than Qi and Jing is thicker than Qi. It is like water and air.
Vapouer is lighter than flowing water, but it can pervade flowing water. Air is
lighter than water, very light. So, vapor becomes air and talks water with it.

And vapor becomes water and talks with it.

In this way, the transformative quality of Qi can be explained.

Jing and Shen are both expressions of the DAo, but due to separation of Yin and
Yang, as is the case with manifestation, they appear to be on opposite sides. Qi
is the go between.

Shen is the heart. Jing is the kidneys. Shen gives mind its seat, jing gives
body its seat.

More discussion later if you want more detail of my view.

Sincerely,

Amit

Dear Amanda,

Rash is related to heat. Menopausal syndrome is also related to heat.

Snoring is related to lungs which are related to skin. Menopausal synbdrome is
related to kidneys which, if they were balanced would be pulling energy down and
result in open and free breathing.

Yin of kidneys is not holding the heat down and it is rising. So, I feel when
the three conditions are seen in oneness, you will treat the source.

These treasures are very profound. They are spiritual expressions
from immortal parts of us. To see these essences, you must meditate
deeply. They have color. You can distinguish them by place in the
body.
Imagine with faith that there is a ball of Jing below the navel and
between the back and front of the body. Another ball in the center of
the head for Shen. another ball in the center of the heart for Qi.
Jing is substance. It is material with which we manifest the body.
Jing is also the template of the body. Even though the body may be
defective and have disease, the Jing is always perfect. The masters
access the perfect template of the Jing to remanifest perfection in
the physical body.
Shen is consciousness, thought, logic, visions, communication,
awareness, knowledge, wisdom. Shen produces images and receives
images. With conscious control you can master these images in dreams
and daily life.
Qi is produced in the heart. Jing and Shen flow to the heart and mix
in the Xin (heart center). When they mix, they do so in a spherical
matrix that mystics have talked about for 1000´s of years. Qi is the
expression that projects from the matrix. You can see and talk with
the matrix through deep meditation. The Qi from the heart flows to
all the meridians and governs their expression.

HI!.
I am Chintamani from India and practicing acupuncture from 4 yrs.
According to my knowledge these symptoms seems to be of wood excess, as there
is rash on hand, snoring which is related to lung QI deficiency i. e. deficiency
of metal element due to which it can not control wood, ie liver and gall
bladder,
So i suggest u to try the points which subdues wind from body whcih are LI4,
LI11, DU14, and points on LIVER and GB channel, also u can choose points on Lung
meridian to tonify its Qi, If u treat the route cause all symptoms should go
away as Qi gets balanced.

Any comments on this mail are welcome,

   Best regards,

   Chintamani.

Jing(essences) refers to all the refined nutient substances which
is needed by vital activities, including Qi,blood, body fluid, even kidney-
Jing(responsible for growing,maturature,regeneration,...).It is the
material basis for normal function of Qi and Shen.
Qi can be classified into functional Qi and material Qi.The former
refers to the functional activities of the human body, while the latter
an kind of refined nutrients.
Shen is the manifestations of vitality,or all the mental activities.
Hopefully, it is helpful for you to understand those conception.

As a first year Chinese Medicine student I'm trying to find a
comprehensive explanation/understanding of the following statement:

The Three treasures (Jing, Qi, and the Shen) in the humand being
depend on and support each other. My assignment states that I should
discuss these relationships fully and freely.

I'm having trouble finding my way towards answering the 'essence' of
this question. If anyone has any advice or insight which I might find
useful, I'll appreciate your input a great deal.

Thanks

These horses looked good to us although we feel the overall quality of horses

Thank you for the welcome Dr. Sandeep, I have all my live frowned on taking
medicines and remember suffering from migraines sine I was 12 years old. I
even then refused to take the medications that were given to me as it would
make me so sleepy and felt like my head was always in the clouds.
Today I get so excited as I learn of so many natural ways and for someone
that suffered with migraines that would last days at a time and always at
least every month or two it was such a god send. Now that I am pretty much
all natural I rarely have a migraine in fact I have not had one in over 6
months.
I love teaching others what I learn, the most fulfilling thing in life is
when someone comes to me in pain and by the time they leave they feel 150%
better.

Sincerely,
                Christina

I, so far, have an AMAZING experience after only 11 sessions (11 weeks)

I am 32. For 3 years I had aweful mentsrual issues that came out of nowhere! I
bled all
the times, horrible cramps, heavy periods...spotting and cramping in between. I
gained 20
pounds (I was 115 pounds and FIT!)...5 gyno's could not help me. I went on 4
different
birth control pills, was mis-diagnosed at one point with PCOS (polycystic
ovarian
syndrome)

I even went to a famous GYNO in Beverly Hills who wrote a book. I went off the
pill, tried
natural progesterone cream....

Then I found out I had a very small, submucous fibroid and a uterine polyp.

I RAN to a VERY old-school chinese acupunturist (been doing it since 1965 AND
she was a
gyno in Shanghai...she had saved my friends uterus once)...

After 11 sessions and herbs, and stopping the progesterone cream (and did not
change
anything else about my life)...

For the first time in 3 years...I had 2 NORMAL menses and the rest of the month
was
amazing...no bloating, no mid-cycle spotting and cramping...

She has, so far changed my life around. I even pushed back my follow-up
ultrasound -
because I am hoping she got rid of the firbroid!

Anyway...I swear by this woman and have had such amazing results that it's kind
of
insane!! I ask questions on this board sometimes...because my Acupuncturist is
SOO old-
school and has a very blunt-like bedside manner...I never ask her details about
acupunture itself or what she is doing to me etc....

But the results are amazing so far. we'll see...it's only been two cycles...I
hope to report
more success!
elle

Dear All,
I am also very interested in this all. I am a brazilian pharmacist who is
now studying medicine and also a member of the Brazilian Red Cross. I have
recently completed a course of TUI-NA and become fascinated for the traditional
chinese medicine, I think it adapts perfectly to my dreams of becoming a
phamily practioner in the brazilian most distant fields, where I have already
worked as a pharmacist and medical chemistry technitian, so I am about to learn
acumpucture. I am about to propose a project to the Brazilian Red Cross to use
the TUI-NA (and TCM) with victims of trauma, particulary those who suffered
urban violence.
I would like to know more about those programs and projects, and also
have suggestions from those who already does something alike.
       Thank you very much!!!

A few weeks ago I posted a message about severe allergies and MCS. I
did not want to have straightforward accupuncture in case it worsened
the condition. Quite rightly, it could have worsened the condition if
the accupuncturist believed that immune system should be stimulated.

Someone from this board contacted me and gave me the name of an
institution founded by an Indian lady practicing accupuncture. She had
herself suffered from serious allergies. She started a new movement of
accupuncturist.

Unfortunately, my PC broke down and all the info stored was lost.

I would be grateful if this person could contact me again with the
details of this accupuncture movement in order for me to contact them.

I live in London, UK and would be very grateful for any information.

Many thanks
Kooky

I am interested in hearing about peoples experiences with acupuncture
treatments. Anything you want to share such as sensations during
treatment, what you sought treatment for, results, etc. This
information is just for my own personal curiosity. I am interested in
learning more about acupuncture and have read several books and have
received treatments myself and am just curious about other peoples
experiences.
Thanks!
