Sorry Nancy, I got distracted by Johns reply.
Yes, "Traditional Chinese Medicine" This is the term used by the pertinent
national certification and state licensing folks. The history of Chinese Folk
Medicine is quite interesting and spiritually rich. After the communist
revolution in China, the gov't needed some way to provide healthcare to
millions. They rounded up the masters and, under pain of death, forced them to
create a modular, non-spiritual system that they trained a couple a hundred
thousand "barefoot doctors" in and sent them out into the country side. This is,
with significantly more depth, what is taught in schools today.
This is a close corollary to our current health care situation.
Western medicine is increasingly unable to provide decent PRIMARY care. Given
the field specialization and reliance on pharmaceutical, technological and
surgical sledgehammers (hey, sometimes you need a big hammer), primary care
should fall to natural doctors (yes, i said it...doctors. (If you practice in a
state that will not allow you to call yourself a doctor and practice primary
care, then you have work to do...for the good of the profession and our
patients...change it.)
allopathic medicine is much better suited to secondary (general Rx medicine)
care and tertiary (emergency / critical) care.
According to the $$$, the public is already driving things in this direction.
(yes, John, I here you. Just be really good and charge more. Believe me, the
market can handle it. BTW, what's your take on"working class" acupuncture?)
It is also interesting to note that the masters still managed to retain the
spiritual essence of the system so that it would not be lost...you can't kill
spirit.
Some have called for a distinction between TCM and CCM (Classic Chinese
Medicine)-more Taoist spiritulism.
As for a bit of interest,
here are a few links that everyone should explore:

is this for real?
Don't forget folks... "they" are still out there...er...here.
Also OBTW, Kudos to AAAOM for taking a stand. Please check out their website and
donate if you can.
cheers,
