We were just informed about an opportunity to vote for the Discovery Health TV
show we did
last year as a "Favorite", which would allow it to be re-broadcast this coming
Sunday and
possibly gain it a little more recognition in the "big scheme of things". More
importantly than
winning any Fan Favorite award or simply replaying it this coming Sunday, having
our show
win this contest might convince the network to make DVDs available for sale and
possibly do
more dwarf-related shows (about our family or others).
Please vote for our show by clicking on the link below and choosing "Dwarf
Family". If you
feel comfortable asking other friends and family members to vote for our show,
please pass
this along as well.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. Is there anyone from Texas? I
just recently moved from Ohio to Texas. I live in Bastrop Texas. I've
only been around a couple of other little people. So I thought I would
try to make some friends.
Hey Noelle,
Dont give up on the job hunting. I myself being a male achondroplastia dwarf
standing only 4'4" have had my share of struggles also. Where are you from?
You have to expect employers to be in shock if they meet you but you have to
defuse it with a joke. Maybe it is the type of jobs you are looking for. I
work as a graphic artist for many years and the company is completely happy
with my performance because I feel as though I have to give it extra effort
to constatnly prove myself. Dont give up on the search I would love to hear
from you.

Thanks for posting this I just had my fourth interview in six months
and I've been rejected again. They said they found another person more
experienced with animals (it was for PetsMart) even though I had
practically every animal you can think of and I told them that. When I
ask for a application I get that look as well. When I found out I
didn't get the job at PetsMart I started crying because I seriously
filled out over 20 applications. I hate this world of jobs. People are
so rude. I only had 2 jobs in my entire life that didn't last more
than 6 months each. I worked at KFC/Taco Bell and wanted me to sit on
the counter for me to reach the chicken. WHAT? I couldn't believe they
wanted me to do that. Well I hate the job world but I'm 19 and I NEED
a job BAD!!!! Katie

Hi, I just want to tell you don´t ever lose hope. Just keep fighting in this
unequal and unfair world. Remember that is always difficult to find a job.
So don´t blame everything on your looks. Keep looking and preparing your
self to be better and better everyday and one day someone is going to give
you an opportunity.
Bye and good luck
Katherine

Hi All!!! My name is Karina, eventough I am only 4'11", I am an AP. My
son Dakota is 8 now, he is Achon like his late father Larry Green.
Hopefully someone here has some good stories about sending their kid to
this camp. Up until the last couple of months Dakota could care less
about other LP's. But as he's growing and seeing the big difference
between himself and his peers, he wants to know more about others like
him. Everyone is more than welcome to reply and drop in their 2cents.
Here's to hearing from ya soon!!!
Karina
Hello,
I'm sending this all to you to let you all know a head of time. On
Sunday May 7th, at 2pm we are heading to Craig's Cruiser's in Wyoming
for a fun filled family fun. You can check out their website at
http://www.craigscruisers.com/home.htm to see all the activities they
have and get directions on how to get there.
There will be a small meeting for the adults about LPA related
stuff.
We need to let them know ASAP of how many are coming to get the
group rate. Please contact Stacey Overholt at 616-949-3239 or
d.overholt@.... I hope to see you all there.
Teriana
Hi I am 4'3" tall "achon" male, when I was younger I was in LPA but later in
my teens and 20s I dropped out of it. I am looking to meet others like
myself. I am also gay I was wondering how others deal with this is in
average height world. Would like to talk to others for friendship and
possibly more.
Subject: Re: [achondroplastic_dwarfism] Hi I'm new here
Hi Noelle,
Rob here, another Achon, or Achondroplasia Dwarf, I too am at 4'2", as I've lost 4" from surgeries on my back and spine. But you aren't alone, there are hundreds of thousands of us out there, and here, and all over. Depending on what website you use, you can find most of us out there. If you haven't already looked, try www.LPAOnline.org or www.dwarfism.org for information on dwarfism and the groups that are out there. I for one am a member of Little People of America, and have found a great comfort in it's help with my life. You're lucky, as having that plus that allot of us don't have, as your father is Achon like yourself, making it helpful in solutions to your height. Both of my parents were Average Height, so were my siblings, so nobody really understood my needs that much. But joining LPA at 18 helped them understand a little more about my needs, the only trouble was I left and didn't come back, and yes I have visited since, but what I mean is that I moved out, clear across to the other side of the country, so I'm not down the street. Anyway, if you want to chat, give me a holler, yell, or email, lol.

Dear Kathie Adams:
Hi, My name is Cindy and I am married to a dwarf man named Jeff. If I can help you in anyway please email me at Cbau952400@.... I live in New York and have been married for 18 years. I have two children.

For several years I was the owner/moderator of a
successful online group for anyone battling chronic pain,
before my own battles with cancer forced me to give
it up. I constantly made sure the group was a comfort
and source of uplifting support for all members.
My own chronic pain battles are severe. And I know
many other LP's battle the same kinds of chronic pain.
Here is the description for the group:
>>>There are many challenges that come with dwarfism. All too often
many of
us must then also deal with terrible pain issues due to the many
orthopaedic
problems and/or surgeries which are a result of our dwarfism as
well. This
group strives in a positive way to be a daily source of uplifting
comfort in
living with chronic pain. Here, those with dwarfism struggling with
pain will
find a "separate peace." Here, there is warm support, laughter, and
many
other little wonderful treasures to share to help make brighter the
physical
challenges we endure. Perhaps Kahlil Gibran said it best: "The
deeper sorrow
carves into our souls, the more joy we may attain.">>>
I really felt we could use a support group of this
nature, and do hope many of you will want to give this
a try. You never know------you might just get something
positive out of it!

My nephew is 22 years old. He was diagnosed with achon at birth, but
his parents have never really accepted this or even discussed it with
him. They keep him very sheltered(for their own purposes) and he
lives at home and does not have access to a computer where he could
log into a chat room, as I have done, to connect with other people
with achon. We live in the ALbany NY area. Does anyone know how I
would go about finding a local support group? He needs to find people
who can relate to the issues that he faces.

On Monday January 9th, there will a Premiere showing of a new documentary film
about
our family on the Discovery Health Channel. The show is titled "Dwarf Family :
Meet the
Fooses". It's one hour long and does a pretty good job of telling the basic
"dwarf family
lives the same way everybody else does and just wants to fit in" story.
We participated in this show to educate people and spread the LPA story, so that
individuals with dwarfism or families and friends can have another reference
point to use
when educating their own neighbors, co-workers, school mates, etc.
You can see a quick bio of the film subject at www.advancedmedical.tv/mtf.htm
You can also see a website/blog we have created to give people a place to read
about any
ongoing developments with the results of the film at : www.dwarffamily.com
Tell all your friends and family :

Monday January 9th
8pm and 11pm Eastern Time Zone
(we have confirmed 5pm and 8pm broadcasts on the west coast, not sure about the
middle of the country)

anything else we
can do to get the show seen in more places more often.

I will answer without downloading your survey, do you realize Achondroplastic dwarfism only affects limb length. And not a psych dissability.
What is it you truly want to know? How we adapt to the way that the social pecking order keeps us down because most of society can not handle the fact that we are of inteligence. I'm not wanting to sound militant but where are your crudientials for this survey. And since when did we have more pronounced psych issues than the rest of the world?

Hello Folks :
Some of you have already expressed your sympathies and shared your memories of
Joan in
this discussion group and others. One of the San Francisco Bay Area members and
Joan's
friend, Emily Bromley, has volunteered to collect memories and photos you have
to put
together a memory book for Joan's daughter, Rebecca.
We all have wonderful memories of Joan and how she touched our lives and helped

Hello,
I have a question. Over the last week or so while we where in
Chicago for my daughter's back surgery(Herrington rods replacement due
to severe kyposis) we found out that her doctor is moving to Riley's
Childrens Hospital in Indiana sometime this month. We are debating if
we should follow him from Chicago to Indiana when we live in
Michigan. My question is..Does anyone know a good back doctor that
has experience with LP children that would be closer to michigan. The
ones we found so far we don't trust because they don't have experience
with LP's. We have to find one soon because she needs a post op visit
soon. Any recommendations will be very welcome.

I HAVE LEARNED
