Hi, my name is Sheila and even though I was diagnosed with a form of
dwarfism I am not sure I exactly qualify. I am 5 ft tall but I do
suffer from a form of dwarfism which caused my forearms to be very
short and my wrist are thick and have bones which kind of protude.
Even though alot of people do notice it, the majority of people do
not. I was diagnosed when I was 16. The reason I joined is in hopes
of determining what form of dwarfism mine is. In 1995 my sister went
to UAB for a test to determine if her baby was normal and the
genetics lady ask me if I knew I had dwarfism and I replied yes but
how did you know and she replied I can see it. She did call it's
name but I don't remember what that was. At 47 I suffer from alot of
arthritus problems such as osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitus
osteoporois, fibromyalgia and spinal stenosis amoung a few other
problems so I wondering if some of my health problems could be cause
from the dwarfism. Even though my limbs are mostly proporiated with
the rest of my body, height being 5 ft, my fore arms are small in
comparison. And my wrist often draw attention from doctors and
others who think I have either broken them right then or prior to
that moment. I suffer alot of pain in my neck and back, hips, legs
the most but suffer from moderate to severe pain all over everyday.
I have one sister who has the dwarfism and doctors wanted my mother
to give her the growth hormone shots but mother refused. She is also
about 5 ft but my mothers entire family are all only about 5ft 4
inches and are all small framed. Anyway this is why I joined and
also to find out if it might be possible for this kind of dwarfism
to be passed on to my grandchildren. I have one who is normal height
actually he is above average height and will more then likely be
well over 6 ft. Can anyone help me with some or all of my questions.
Thanks Sheila
