Hi Jill,
I must confess, I haven't been here much! I don't have achondroplasia
but my 6 year old son does.
You are right that achondroplasts have shorter arms and legs, average
size body and a larger head. If you sit next to your boyfriend, you
are probably about the same height!
So I am learning as I go along too.
I would really encourage both you and your boyfriend join LPA (think
you said you live in America). You will meet lots of other little
people and families of LP's. You will learn a lot too!
Sounds like your boyfriend is very healthy. One thing I have learnt is
that LP's often have problems with weight control. Keeping the weight
down helps avoid problems with the back and legs. Often achons need
surgery on their backs for "stenosis".
Also do searches on achondroplasia.....there's a wealth of information
out there!
Caela
