40 teen clubs participate in workshop

Chandigarh, January 3
The Nehru Yuva Kendra, Chandigarh organised a state-level workshop-
Adolescent Development and Empowerment Project, at the Commonwealth
Youth Programme, Asia Centre, here today. The workshop, inaugurated
by Mr P.H. Vaishnav, former Chief Secretary, Punjab, was attended by
over 60 persons from Punjab and Chandigarh. The objective of the
workshop was to focus on an all-round development of adolescents and
to lay emphasis on their active participation in nation
reconstruction activities. As many as 40 teen clubs have been formed
in the villages of Chandigarh and in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab as
part of this objective.
The Chief Guest, in his inaugural address said, the problem should be
addressed in urban as well as rural areas. "We should think about the
health, career, recreation and other aspects of an adolescent's
life," he said.
In the workshop, Col Ravi Bedi, Dr Avnish Jolly, Mr G.S. Kajla, Mr
Amarpreet Singh, Miss Lavlin, Mr Samson Masih, Dr G.S. Bajwa were the
resource persons. The participants of this workshop included youth
leaders from various youth clubs of Chandigarh and Hoshiarpur, peer
volunteers, peer educators, national service volunteers and members
of teen clubs.
