Friday, April 30th, AIM will be celebrating it's 21st Birthday!! I hope you received an invitation, but on the offchance you did not, please know that it won't be a party without YOU. Please come! It is at 7 o'clock, at Huntington Woods Lutheran Church, 12937 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (between Woodward and Coolidge). Our speaker will be, Stephen Pravel PhD. His topic is "Amplification Anxiety and Catastrophication". We will also be having a raffle, with the main prize being a brand new stereo system (among other things). Tickets will be $1.00.
If this does not entice you, come anyway. It will be fun! You may see people that you have not seen for a long time, or you may even meet a new friend. The main gist of this celebration is recovery! Celebrate because it exists, it's attainable, and we will support you while you are working on it!
Just a note to tell you that we all really enjoy having you attend our meetings. We are hoping to see you again, as your presence really adds to our group. Let me invite you to come to our Eastside group, in Roseville. This group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm, at St Athanasius Church, 18720 Thirteen Mile Rd., Roseville, MI (between Gratiot and Groesbeck). Enter the door that says Office. On the 27th of January, we will be having a speaker by the name of Dr. Deborah Dahl. She was a former member of AIM that went on to become a psychologist.
Whatever you choose to do, remember that recovery is 100% possible!

Hello:
There is only a message board and no chat facility (or at least
yet). Not a bad idea though. Since there is only a message board, there
are no scheduled times.

Hi Everyone! I hope all goes well for you and that you know your friendship means a great deal to me. Most of you already live exactly like the Dalai Lama advises us to but when I got this sent to me, I figured it was worthwhile to send to you as good luck insurance in the coming year.
Here's to the end of a beautiful Holiday Season and the beginning of a very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year for us all!
This is what The Dalai Lama has to say on the millennium, which began 01/01/2003. All it takes is a few seconds to read and think about. Do not keep this message. The mantra must leave your hands within 96 hours. You will get a very pleasant surprise. This is true even if you are not superstitious.
Instructions for Life in the new millennium from the Dalai Lama:
1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three Rs: Respect for self, respect for others and responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go some place you've never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
Do not keep this message. The mantra must leave your hands within 96 hours. You will get a very pleasant surprise (this is true even if you are not superstitious) if you send it to:
0-4 people: Your life will improve slightly.
5-9 people: Your life will improve to your liking.
Hi Gang...Check out the AIM website....An old time AIM member has passed away and there is a place for you to add your memories of him. His name was Fred.
I received this in an email and thought I would pass it along. I think the point is that they would not donate to the veterans, not to social action groups, etc. I don't like Target stores, anyway. I was curious as to what some of you think???
mary ann
Vietnam Veterans Association
Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event.
We received the following reply from the local TARGET management: "Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education."
So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.
As a follow-up, I e-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters and their response was the same. That's their national policy.
Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of employees who were called up for active duty to continue their insurance coverage while they were on military service. Then as I dig further, TARGET is a French-owned corporation.
Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET can not support American Veterans, then why should I and my family support their stores by spending our hard earned American dollars and to have their profits sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be today?
Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.
how did you do at preschool? i bet it turned out fine. we can always do the things that we need to do. we might not like it, but we do it. that only tells you that you are really capable, you just don't know it!
hypnotherapy is good. you totally relax and then introduce some positive statements.(afffirmations).
i am in the uk. i was having counselling for a while but it was not doing very much for me. i have heard a lot of good things about hypnotyherpy which i am looking into trying. big well done to you for getting through it. do you live a normal life now or do you still find it hard some days have you taken a holiday yet i really miss that. i have worked up the courage to take kayleigh ( my oldest) to pre school today have to leave in about half an hour so wish me luck.

yes, i have been recovered for a number of years. i did not take meds because i was phobic about that. i was just sick and tired of being sick and tired. i wasn't doing anything with my kids, in fact, i wasn't doing anything. i was willing to do anything (almost), and son of a gun, it worked!

Debbie, I was trying to do 2 things. One, was to see who was actually on the ONLINR list, and two, to let everyone know that a new group was forming on the East Side at St. Athanasius Church, 18720 13 mile (between Groesbeck and Gratiot), Roseville, MI. It will be on Tuesday, at 7:30pm. If you can make it, please come. Thanks for responding, blessings, Mary Ann
Hello Deb:
Don't stop getting out. Trust me on this as I have been there and
most likely done that. Remember to ALWAYS pat yourself on the back no
matter how far you have gotten. Never beat yourself up for not being
able to get somewhere. The is a meeting on the East side of Detroit
again. It will be at St Athanasius Church, 18720 Thriteen Mile Rd.,
Roseville, MI 48067. Tuesdays, 7:30pm. Sure hop[e you can make it
there as they will be able to help. They did me.
As for the social anxiety go to places that you know will have a
small comfortable amount of people there. Stay awhile. Then go back to
the place, if there is a few amount, you are in luck. If there is a few
more people stay awhile. Keep doing that. Soon enough it woun't bother
you and you will be able to go to places with a few more people.
Hope this helps!
Scott

When I do get out, my travel ability is very limited and social
anxiety is a factor that is only making it worse...is there any
meetings in this area of MI. Anyone that is interested in emailing
as this seems to be a hard thing for most to understand around me.
Take gentle care. Deb
