hi tina!
welcome to a.i.m.! my name is mary ann, and i have been with aim for many
years. you asked what works and what doesn't.... well, basically there are
2 kinds of treatments. one is medicine (antidepressants, anti-anxiety etc),
and the other is behavioral/cognitive restructuring (which really means -
change your behaviors and your thoughts). medicine is a choice.
behavioral/cognitive stuff is necessary. a.i.m. can't give you medical
advice, that is between you and your doctor, but we can tell you that
changing your behavior, and most importantly, your thoughts, is necessary.
it's a lot of hard work, but well worth it. to me, knowing that i could
recover from agoraphobia was the biggest relief. i did not care what i had
to do to obtain. check out the website
www.aim-hq.org
i have 4 kids, but they are much older than yours. i have 3 girls and 1
boy.
keep in touch.
yours in recovery,
mary ann
