Hi there! I too was wondering if anything was happening with the PA group these days!? I'm not going to Snowmass but I'd love to arrange something for the conference in Santa Fe (where I live) at the end of May.
Anyone know what's up with the COMPAS website? I can never access it anymore.

If anyone else is attending the 25th Anniversary / WMS meeting in
Snowmass in July, I'm planning on hiking the Four Pass Loop in the Maroon Bells Wilderness. It's 26 miles. I'm going to take 2 days, one overnight.
The meeting ends on the 30th, Wednesday. I'll be hiking Thursday and Friday. Please let me know if you're interested. I need to check into permits.
Thanks,

After several months of training with weights, rowing machines, long runs, bushwacks and lifting weights, the trip is finally completed. It is hard to believe it is over after so much preparation. We had an awesome time! Here is a pictoral summary of our trip to Mt. Rainier, the journey, the training, and the people we met along the way. Thank you to our wives. Thank you to our children and to all who prayed for us and supported this great journey. This trip has been a real gift for all of us, a blessing of a lifetime. Thank you.

Hello everyone. Some of you know of our recent trip to summit Mt Rainier. It was a great time and I just wanted to share some pics from the trip. Hope everyone is well!! ~pearce
Are you going to Kilimanjaro? I am leaving for Tanzania next week for almost a month for a medical mission. I hear it’s a nasty month weatherwise to climb, so did not plan to do it this time around. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford going back in the future. Glad to hear about new members of our group.

Pearce and Sara,
I'll be at the Park City Conference. I won't be
arrinving until Sunday as I'm not interested in the
Avalanche Training course, but will be attending the
AWLS course.
Please contact me - I'd be interested in getting
together over coffee and or skiing/snowboarding.
I organize a 1-2 week backpacking trip every summer
and am always open for new members. Next year, we're
planning on going to Denali. This summer, we're
hiking the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail.

Your life sounds great! You are doing some
exciting things. I enjoyed reading your email. I won’t be in ParkCity
this year (am actually going skiing in Keystone with my daughter who is living
in Denver right
now). But I do love the snow in Utah.
I don’t know of any other PAs who will be going to the ParkCity
conference at this time….hopefully there will be a few. We usually try to
make an announcement at the beginning of the meetings that if there are any PAs
in the group who would like to get together, then we would meet at such and
such a place.
Will you be in Snowmass this summer?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the group but am very excited to see such an
organization in existence!
In March, I will be attending the Park City Conference and hope
to meet some of you there. Is there any specific organized time or
place where PAs typically gather for any informal discussion, meal,
ski, lecture, etc.? I will be taking the AWLS course while in Utah,
but hope to have time for other things as well.
A little bit about myself- I am a PA in Cardiothoracic Surgery
(prev. Orthopaedics) at Dartmouth in New Hampshire.
Currently, I am
working on completing the 48- 4000footer list (I am on #24 this
weekend) and will(Lord willing) be summiting Mt Rainier with some
friends this summer. On the side of these pursuits, a group of
PAs/NPs at my facility are gathering next week for the purpose of
forming a charity hiking organization for our hospital called the
Healthy Heart Hiker Foundation. We hope to have 1 or 2 charity hikes/
year that with the addition of local corporate sponsorship will be
able to contribute to the new Cardiovascular"Center" at Dartmouth.
If any of you have any ideas to contribute in this project, I would
be very appreciative of your input. Hope to meet some of you in Utah. Have a
great week!

The WMS conferences are WELL worth your time! You do meet great people as someone already mentioned. You do have access to 'great WMS minds' while you are there. I wish I could attend each and every one of them...now if I could only afford each and every one of them! I am currently trying to save up for the Santa Fe WMS conference.
Incidentally, I am in orthopedics and would like to hear more about your experience with those conferences. That bad? Which ones were they? When you have time.
I have to concur w/ Sara's
opinion; if you "do medicine," and enjoy the outdoors (even if it's just hiking), then WMS meetings/conferences are excellent.
Wish I could make this one as I love the skiing in Park City. The WMS conferences are always very informative with great topics and a lot of fun. The lectures/sessions are always well attended as they are so interesting. The people you meet are great too. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I'm planning to attent the WMS meeting in Park City, Utah in March. Being relatively new to this group, I was wondering if anyone who has attended WMS meetings in the past could comment on their experience. Additionally, are there any PA's that will be there from this list.
In the past, I've attended the PAOS (Orthopaedic) meetings and haven't been impressed with their structure or organization. Hopefully this will be a better experience.
Thanks for your
input.

I have recently joined as well and thought I'd
introduce myself.
My name is Rob Ritchey. I've been in practice for approximately 4
years in General Orthopaedics with an emphasis on hand and joint
replacement surgery. I'm an avid outdoorsman with particular
interest in thru-hiking and backpacking (at least what my schedule
will allow). I also jog, snowboard, ski, mountain bike and have
recently gotten interested in climbing. Within the next year, I
intent to expand my interest into mountaineering.
I've done multi-day overnight hikes in ZionCanyon, BryceCanyon,
Canyonlands, Yellowstone, Glacier, Yosemite,
Sequoia, Rocky Mtn, Mt.
Hood, Mt.Ranier and the Olympics. I spend at
least a weekend a
month in the Sierra Nevada - both winter and
summer. I've thru-hiked
the 165 mile Tahoe Rim Trail and am thru-hiking the 185 mile Tahoe-
Yosemite Trail in 2007. I've climbed Mt.Shasta and Mt.Whitney.
The list is entertaining, but I haven't even scratched the surface of
what some of you may have accomplished.
I'm excited to have found this group and am ecstatic to combine my
passion for medicine and the wilderness.
