RE: [WildernessMedicinePA] Future of COMPAS

Glad I had a chance to meet you as well.  I would have stayed and talked more but I was in the middle of a three hour meeting with APPAP that began before the compass meeting and I had a speaking part after the compass meeting so I was in a hurry since I was sort of sneaking out.  I was only in town for a couple days and did not attend the conference.

I would be interested in writing for the WMS journal from the PA’s.  If the journal wants scientific articles, I don’t think I would have the time and availability to write about specific studies and conduct research.  If they want just educational pieces of wilderness topics not founded in research then I would not mind to write articles about various topics.  I know you guys don’t know me or my experience well so I will explain a bit of my experience and credentials below to give you an idea of my past.

I have been a FP PA for 6 years and will finish an Emergency Medicine fellowship at the end of this month.  I have practiced as a PA in 3 states, not including two different states in PA school.  I am moving to Anchorage Alaska in July to begin work in the ED.  I have deployed to Saudi Arabia (years ago) and most recently Iraq.  My job in Iraq was very much a wilderness experience and I was in charge of training Iraqi medics and providing health care for over 7000 Iraqi soldiers as well as visiting health care for many villages around the country.  I was chosen as the USAF Outstanding Global Health Person of the Year and a smaller group of the AF PA of the Year.

Let me know if this is something that we will be interested in.  I would send this just to you instead of the whole group, but I am not computer savvy enough to know how to do that so I guess everyone gets to read the correspondence.

Dave

Sorry it has taken me so lone to reply.  I would consider offering myself for any needed roles within COMPAS.  I hope to be in SF at the end of the month and I think I saw that a couple of you were planning on being there as well.
